Article Synopsis
  • Houttuynia cordata (HC) is an herbal plant used in traditional Asian medicine for treating hair loss, but its effects on hair growth were not previously understood.
  • The study found that HC extract promotes hair growth by stimulating the proliferation of human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) through increased energy metabolism and changes in gene expression related to the cell cycle.
  • HC extract also enhances the secretion of growth factors and prolongs the active growth phase of hair follicles, suggesting its potential as a treatment for alopecia.
