Introduction: Supramalleolar osteotomies have been reported to be effective in the treatment of moderate primary and traumatic osteoarthritis of the ankle joint.
Step 1 Arthroscopic Examination: Perform an arthroscopic examination prior to the osteotomy in every patient to evaluate the status of the articular cartilage of the tibia and talus.
Step 2 Fibular Osteotomy: Bend a seven-hole plate slightly more than the natural contour of the distal part of the fibula, insert screws, and complete the osteotomy.
Background: Supramlleolar osteotomy has been recommended to correct varus deformity of the tibial plafond, however we have seen only a few ankles with significant deviation of alignment in early stage osteoarthritis, in which realignment treatments might be necessary to modify the course of the disease. Our hypothesis was that there are diverse radiographic features of the tibial plafond and hindfoot in varus ankle osteoarthritis.
Materials And Methods: The study included 154 ankles of 98 patients with medial osteoarthritis, and 80 ankles of 80 normal subjects.
Background: Osteotomies are reported to be effective for the treatment of most cases of primary and traumatic moderate osteoarthritis of the ankle joint. Because of unsatisfactory results following supramalleolar tibial osteotomy in several of our patients, we investigated the cause of the unsatisfactory results and the indications for this surgical procedure.
Methods: Supramalleolar tibial osteotomy combined with fibular osteotomy was performed in sixteen ankles (sixteen patients) to treat moderate medial ankle osteoarthritis.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlations between spur severity, clinical characteristics, and articular cartilage lesions in patients with anterior bony impingement.
Methods: The study included 57 ankles in 57 patients (48 male and 9 female patients; age range, 15 to 59 years) who had undergone a spur resection for anterior impingement. We excluded spurs in patients with osteoarthritis with joint space narrowing.

Background: Radiographic grading has been used to assess and select between treatment options for ankle osteoarthritis. To use radiographic grading systems in clinical practice and scientific studies one must have reliable systems that predict the fate of the cartilage.
Questions/purposes: We therefore asked whether (1) radiographic grading of ankle osteoarthritis is reliable and (2) grading reflects cartilage damage observed during arthroscopy.
Background: The purpose of this study was to review our results of treatment for brachymetatarsia involving the first and fourth ray.
Materials And Methods: This study includes 47 feet of 30 patients who have been treated for brachymetatarsia of the first and fourth rays. The average age of patients was 26.
Fractures of ossified tibialis anterior tendon have been successfully managed by the excision of the ossified tendon and transfer of the extensor hallucis longus tendon. A 64-year-old man sustained an injury during mountain hiking 2 weeks prior to presentation, falling down on his heels with his ankle fully plantarflexed. Two tender and bony hard masses were palpable along the course of the tibialis anterior tendon, one at the anteromedial aspect of the ankle and another at the dorsum of the talonavicular joint.

We present one-stage treatment of deep infection following repair of Achilles tendon rupture using flexor hallucis longus transfer. Flexor hallucis longus was used not only to connect the defect in Achillles tendon, but also to control the soft tissue infection with its abundant blood supply, simultaneously. The clinical results for the two patients in this report were excellent without major complication.

Seven kinds of green tea leaves were manufactured with far-infrared (FIR) irradiation, and the physicochemical characteristics of the green tea were determined. Appropriate FIR irradiation during the manufacturing process significantly increased the polyphenolic content of green tea. FIR irradiation at 90 degrees C for 10 min, replacing the roasting step, and of the fully processed green tea leaves (GTP3) increased the total phenol content of green tea from 475.

Study Design: Two hundred ninety-six patients who had undergone FNA, core biopsy or both for lung lesions were divided into malignant and benign groups according to the final diagnoses, which were based on the cytologic and histopathologic findings combined with clinical features. In each group, the diagnostic usefulness of FNA, core biopsy and a combination of the two were evaluated by comparing the results of each with the final diagnoses.
We have examined the ontogeny of parvalbumin (PV) and calbindin D-28k (CB) immunoreactivities in the canine anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) from the day of birth (P0) through P180. At P7, PV immunoreactivity first appeared in layer VI multipolar cells. The PV immunoreactivity in GABAergic nonpyramidal cells appeared to follow an inside-out gradient of radial emergence.
