Article Synopsis
  • This study analyzed the effects of age on outcomes for patients undergoing medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (mUKA), revealing that contemporary practices no longer limit eligibility based on age.
  • A total of 782 patients were evaluated, showing significant improvements in knee function across all age groups after surgery, with no notable differences in the overall outcomes based on age.
  • However, patients aged 55 to < 65 years experienced less improvement in specific measures of joint awareness and participation, but overall satisfaction was high across all age categories, supporting the current approach of not using age as a restriction for mUKA.

Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is widely used in the clinic as a biomarker for ovarian reserve and to predict ovarian response to gonadotropin stimulation. Patients with higher AMH levels tend to yield more oocytes and have better outcomes from assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures. The goal of this study is to determine if AMH can be used to predict the outcome of controlled ovarian stimulation in rhesus macaques, which are commonly used in biomedical research, to refine animal use while maximizing oocyte yield.

Micro-electrocorticography (µECoG) electrodes have emerged to balance the trade-off between invasiveness and signal quality in brain recordings. However, its large-scale applicability is still hindered by a lack of comparative studies assessing the relationship between ECoG and traditional recording methods such as penetrating electrodes. This study aimed to compare somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) through the lenses of a µECoG and an intracortical microelectrode array (MEA).

Background: Initial treatment for advanced ER-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer involves a CDK 4/6 inhibitor (CDK 4/6i). Recent overall survival (OS) analyses led the Danish Medical Council to exclude palbociclib as preferred option. This study aimed to evaluate the real-world effectiveness of abemaciclib, palbociclib, and ribociclib in a Danish context.

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often result in sudden and persistent reduction in health-related quality of life (HRQoL), which may be alleviated with palliative care. Among individuals with COPD, we aimed to investigate potential associations between HRQoL at admission with CAP and the risk of re-hospitalization and mortality and potential associations between specific HRQoL domains and CAP treatment outcomes. HRQoL was assessed at admission and the participants were grouped into tertiles based on the HRQoL utility index and specific domains.

Assays for quantifying aggregated and phosphorylated (S129) human α-synuclein protein are widely used to evaluate pathological burden in patients suffering from synucleinopathy disorders. Many of these assays, however, do not cross-react with mouse α-synuclein or exhibit poor sensitivity for this target, which is problematic considering the preponderance of mouse models at the forefront of pre-clinical α-synuclein research. In this project, we addressed this unmet need by reformulating two existing AlphaLISA SureFire Ultra™ total and pS129 α-synuclein assay kits to yield robust and ultrasensitive (LLoQ ≤ 0.

In mammalian cells, primary miRNAs are cleaved at their hairpin structures by the Microprocessor complex, whose core is composed of DROSHA and DGCR8. Here, we show that 5' flanking regions, resulting from Microprocessor cleavage, are targeted by the RNA exosome in mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs). This is facilitated by a physical link between DGCR8 and the nuclear exosome targeting (NEXT) component ZCCHC8.

Insufficient information on the content of vitamin K2 in our foods hinder estimation of the dietary intake. We aimed to establish content of eight vitamin K vitamers, vitamin K1 (phylloquinone; PK) and vitamin K2 (menaquinones; MK-4 to MK-10) in 88 composite food samples representing dairy, eggs, meat, fish, cereals, and plant-based alternatives to dairy. Combined with PK data for other foods, the dietary intake among Danes was estimated.

Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative pain management is challenging for patients undergoing robot-assisted cystectomy, and researchers studied whether a single dose of intraoperative methadone could help reduce pain and the need for opioids post-surgery.
  • In a clinical trial with 114 patients, those receiving methadone had similar opioid requirements compared to those getting morphine at both 3 and 24 hours after surgery, but pain levels were lower in the morphine group at 48 hours.
  • Patient satisfaction was higher for those given methadone at 24 hours, indicating that while methadone didn't reduce opioid use or pain intensity, it may contribute to greater overall satisfaction.
