Background: Fat grafting is increasingly used for breast augmentation. However, long-term volume retention, time to reach steady state, and the effect of postoperative weight changes on these outcomes are not fully understood.
Methods: In this prospective study, we included patients undergoing breast augmentation with fat grafting and examined them with MRI preoperatively and up to three years postoperatively.
Background: Understanding the impact of breast implants on the histological response in the surrounding fibrous capsule is important; however, consensus is lacking on how to analyze implant capsules histologically. We aimed to develop a standardized histological assessment tool to be used in research potentially improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for capsular contracture.

Background Aims: Because of an increasing focus on the use of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) in clinical trials, the culture conditions for these cells are being optimized. We compared the proliferation rates and chromosomal stability of ASCs that had been cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) supplemented with either pooled human platelet lysate (pHPL) or clinical-grade fetal bovine serum (FBS) (DMEM(pHPL) versus DMEM(FBS)).
Methods: ASCs from four healthy donors were cultured in either DMEM(pHPL) or DMEM(FBS), and the population doubling time (PDT) was calculated.

The survival of a microsurgically replanted segment of nose in a 41-year-old woman was facilitated by the assistance of the medicinal leech Hirudo medicinalis. An arterial microanastomosis was made to a severed partial segment of nose with no possibility of recreating a venous anastomosis. The resulting venous congestion was treated with nine days of treatment with a medical leech until venous neovascularisation had been achieved.

Autologous fat has several advantages, including biocompatibility, versatility, natural appearance, and low donor site morbidity. Studies of complications following reconstructive surgery with implants among women with breast cancer are needed. As the, to our knowledge, first prospective long-term study we evaluated the occurrence of complications following delayed breast reconstruction separately for one- and two-stage procedures. From the Danish Registry for Plastic Surgery of the Breast, which has prospectively registered data for women undergoing breast implantations since 1999, we identified 559 women without a history of radiation therapy undergoing 592 delayed breast reconstructions following breast cancer during the period 1999 to 2006; 239 one-stage procedures and 353 two-stage procedures.

Material And Methods: The cohort was identified in the prospective database of the Danish Registry for Plastic Surgery of the Breast during the period 1999 to 2006; 167 women with 189 immediate breast reconstructions (40 one-stage and 149 two-stage procedures) after breast cancer without a history of radiation therapy. The women were followed for complications until November 2009.
