Aims: To evaluate the accuracy and feasibility of artificial intelligence (AI) in left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS) analysis as compared to conventional (Manual) and semi-automated (SemiAuto) method in echocardiography (Echo).
Methods And Results: GLS validation was performed on 550 standard Echo exams by expert cardiologists. The performance of a beginner cardiologist without experience of GLS analysis was assessed on a subset of 90 exams.
Patients with hemophilia A can safely undergo cardiac surgery. Combining continuous infusion and boluses of factor VIII is both safe and cost-effective. Interdisciplinary approach and meticulous planning are crucial in the prevention of bleeding complications.

Design: Prospective observational study SETTING: Single-center study at a tertiary academic cardiac center PARTICIPANTS: Forty-nine patients undergoing minimally invasive surgical aortic valve replacement INTERVENTIONS: Acquisition of full-volume images of the left ventricle after induction of anesthesia and at the end of surgery using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and analysis of the datasets using 3D speckle-tracking-based myocardial deformation analysis (Tomtec Arena).
Measurements And Main Results: Of the 49 complete volume datasets, 30 (61%) had quality sufficient for speckle tracking.
Objectives: Left ventricular (LV) diastolic function strongly predicts outcomes after cardiac surgery, but there is no consensus about appropriate intraoperative assessment. Recently, intraoperative diastolic strain-based measurements assessed by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) have shown a strong correlation with LV relaxation, compliance, and filling, but there are no reports about evaluation through the entire perioperative period. Therefore, the authors describe the intraoperative course of this novel assessment technique in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting, and compare it with conventional echocardiographic measures and common grading algorithms of LV diastolic dysfunction (LVDD).

Patient blood management is a multimodal approach based on three pillars: optimization of blood mass, minimization of blood loss and optimization of patient tolerance to anaemia. Antifibrinolytics play a major role in cardiac surgery, where the risk of perioperative bleeding is high and affects a majority of patients, by effectively reducing bleeding, transfusions, re-operations, as well as their associated morbidity and mortality.

Design: We set up an online survey to evaluate PBM practices in two clinical scenarios, risk factors for bleeding or transfusion, and previous experience with antifibrinolytics.
Setting: This survey was completed by European anesthesiologists in 2019.
Background: In Switzerland, long-term circulatory support programs have been limited to heart transplant centers. In 2014, to improve the management of patients with end-stage heart failure not eligible for transplantation, we implemented a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) program for destination therapy at the University Hospital of Basel.
Methods: We described the program set-up with practical aspects.

This article reviews fellowship training in adult cardiac, thoracic, and vascular anesthesia and critical care from the perspective of European program initiators and educational leaders in these subspecialties together with current training fellows. Currently, the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology (EACTA) network has 20 certified fellowship positions each year in 10 hosting centers within 7 European countries, with 2 positions outside Europe (São Paulo, Brazil). Since 2009, 42 fellows have completed the fellowship training.
