Importance: Accurate risk stratification of nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) remains challenging.
Objective: To evaluate the association of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging-derived measurements with clinical outcomes in NIDCM.
Data Sources: MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science Core Collection databases were systematically searched for articles from January 2005 to April 2023.
Background: People with factor XI deficiency have lower rates of ischaemic stroke than the general population and infrequent spontaneous bleeding, suggesting that factor XI has a more important role in thrombosis than in haemostasis. Milvexian, an oral small-molecule inhibitor of activated factor XI, added to standard antiplatelet therapy, might reduce the risk of non-cardioembolic ischaemic stroke without increasing the risk of bleeding. We aimed to estimate the dose-response of milvexian for recurrent ischaemic cerebral events and major bleeding in patients with recent ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).

Aims: Recent studies suggest that atrial fibrillation (AF) burden (time AF is present) is an independent risk factor for stroke. The aim of this trial was to study the feasibility and accuracy to identify AF episodes and quantify AF burden in patients with a known history of paroxysmal AF with a photoplethysmography (PPG)-based wearable.
Methods And Results: In this prospective, single-centre trial, the PPG-based estimation of AF burden was compared with measurements of a conventional 48 h Holter electrocardiogram (ECG), which served as the gold standard.
Objective: Discussing sensitive topics (eg, medical uncertainty, social issues, non-adherence) during ward rounds is challenging and may negatively impact patient satisfaction with the healthcare they are receiving. In the previous multicentre randomised BEDSIDE-OUTSIDE trial focusing on communication during ward rounds, we investigated the interplay between sensitive topics and low reported satisfaction with care.
Design: Pre-planned secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial.
The silent pandemic of bacterial antimicrobial resistance is a leading cause of death worldwide, prolonging hospital stays and raising health-care costs. Poor incentives to develop novel pharmacological compounds and the misuse of antibiotics contribute to the bacterial antimicrobial resistance crisis. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) based on blood analysis can help alleviate the emergence of bacterial antimicrobial resistance and effectively decreases the risk of toxic drug concentrations in patients' blood.

Reliable vital sign assessments are crucial for the management of patients with infectious diseases. Wearable devices enable easy and comfortable continuous monitoring across settings, especially in pediatric patients, but information about their performance in acutely unwell children is scarce. Vital signs were continuously measured with a multi-sensor wearable device (Everion, Biofourmis, Zurich, Switzerland) in 21 pediatric patients during their hospitalization for appendicitis, osteomyelitis, or septic arthritis to describe acceptance and feasibility and to compare validity and reliability with conventional measurements.

We report the occurrence of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in a 77-year-old man a few days after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine tozinameran (Comirnaty®). The patient was treated with systemic corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulins and eltrombopag. He elected to proceed with the second dose of tozinameran 14 weeks after the first and his platelet count remained stable under a tapered eltrombopag dose.

Wearable smart devices are potentially affordable, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, rapid, robust, lab-independent, and deliverable to the end user for point-of-care testing. Based on the TeleCheck-AF investigator experiences, we aimed to develop an educational structured stepwise practical guide on how to interpret PPG signals and to introduce typical clinical scenarios how on-demand PPG was used.

Background: Assuring adequate antibiotic tissue concentrations at the point of infection, especially in skin and soft tissue infections, is pivotal for an effective treatment and cure.
