Oncology health care professionals have vital roles in optimizing safety and supporting positive outcomes for people receiving these treatments.

Monitoring pilot trainees' cognitive control under a simulator-based training process with EEG microstate analysis.

The objective of pilot training is to equip trainees with the knowledge, judgment, and skills to maintain control of an aircraft and respond to critical flight tasks. The present research aims to investigate changes in trainees' cognitive control levels during a pilot training process while they underwent basic flight maneuvers. EEG microstate analysis was applied together with spectral power features to quantitatively monitor trainees' cognitive control under varied flight tasks during different training sessions on a flight simulator.

Adductor Laryngeal Dystonia Versus Muscle Tension Dysphonia: Examining the Utility of Automated Acoustic Analysis to Detect Task Dependency as a Distinguishing Feature.

Objective: Differentiating adductor laryngeal dystonia (ADLD) and primary muscle tension dysphonia (pMTD) can be challenging. Unlike pMTD, ADLD is described as "task-dependent" with voiced phonemes purportedly provoking greater sign expression than voiceless phonemes. We evaluated the ability of two automated acoustic measures, the Cepstral Spectral Index of Dysphonia (CSID) and creak, to detect task dependency and to discriminate ADLD and pMTD.

Background: Substance use disorders (SUDs) are pressing global public health problems. Executive functions (EFs) are prominently featured in mechanistic models of addiction. However, there remain significant gaps in our understanding of EFs in SUDs, including the dimensional relationships of EFs to underlying neural circuits, molecular biomarkers, disorder heterogeneity, and functional ability.

Assessment of Cochlear Synaptopathy with Standard Clinical Equipment.

Background:  Tinnitus, hyperacusis, and difficulties listening in background noise may be associated with the loss of auditory nerve fibers known as the condition of cochlear synaptopathy. Multiple research-based tests of auditory function have been developed to identify the potential for synaptopathy in animals and humans, including assessment of the middle-ear muscle reflex (MEMR). Despite these research-based tests, there is no verified method for measuring or identifying the potential for cochlear synaptopathy using standard audiologic equipment.

Optimising paediatric bedside teaching for medical students.

Bedside teaching is a common teaching modality in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula and involves students being supervised in a clinical interaction at a patient's bedside by a more senior clinician. Following the clinical encounter, the students and teacher discuss the case and students' consultation skills. This is of particular value in teaching paediatrics to medical students, for whom paediatrics is an unfamiliar environment, and the approach to consultation is very different to usual adult practice.

Sexual violence against men has been significantly overlooked, and under-researched, with minimal attention paid to the influence of culture and ethnicity on survivors' experiences of abuse. This rapid review examines prevalence, disclosure, help-seeking, and criminal justice experiences of Black and Asian male survivors in the United Kingdom. Eight empirical studies published since 2003 involving Black and Asian sexual violence survivors were included through comprehensive database searches, including gray literature and reference lists.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to assess the impact of group singing on physical function, cancer-related symptoms, well-being (emotional, physical, social, spiritual), and health-related quality of life in individuals with cancer and their caregivers.

Methods: A search was performed using Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science from inception to April 2023; key words included cancer, choir, and group singing. Observational cohort, prospective or retrospective studies, randomized controlled studies, and crossover studies were included.

This study assessed whether the effects of contralateral acoustic stimulation (CAS) are consistent with eliciting the medial olivocochlear (MOC) reflex for measurements sensitive to outer hair cell (otoacoustic emissions, OAEs), auditory-nerve (AN; compound action potential, CAP), and brainstem/cortical (envelope-following response, EFR) function.
