Postnatal establishment of enteric metabolic, host-microbial and immune homeostasis is the result of precisely timed and tightly regulated developmental and adaptive processes. Here, we show that infection with the invasive enteropathogen Typhimurium results in accelerated maturation of the neonatal epithelium with premature appearance of antimicrobial, metabolic, developmental, and regenerative features of the adult tissue. Using conditional Myd88-deficient mice, we identify the critical contribution of immune cell-derived mediators.

However, implementing meaningful and effective engagement is complex.
Methods: This article profiles five research initiatives involving different lived experience engagement structures, situated in a single tertiary care teaching and research hospital.
Objectives: Immune checkpoint inhibitors have recently developed successfully in treatment for several advanced cancers, including advanced renal cancer, where options have previously been limited. However, while some are able to tolerate these treatments, others may experience unpredictable and sometimes severe immune-related adverse events. Oncology health care professionals have vital roles in optimizing safety and supporting positive outcomes for people receiving these treatments.

The present research aims to investigate changes in trainees' cognitive control levels during a pilot training process while they underwent basic flight maneuvers. Unlike pMTD, ADLD is described as "task-dependent" with voiced phonemes purportedly provoking greater sign expression than voiceless phonemes. We evaluated the ability of two automated acoustic measures, the Cepstral Spectral Index of Dysphonia (CSID) and creak, to detect task dependency and to discriminate ADLD and pMTD.

Multiple research-based tests of auditory function have been developed to identify the potential for synaptopathy in animals and humans, including assessment of the middle-ear muscle reflex (MEMR). Despite these research-based tests, there is no verified method for measuring or identifying the potential for cochlear synaptopathy using standard audiologic equipment.

Following the clinical encounter, the students and teacher discuss the case and students' consultation skills. This is of particular value in teaching paediatrics to medical students, for whom paediatrics is an unfamiliar environment, and the approach to consultation is very different to usual adult practice.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: This systematic review aimed to assess the impact of group singing on physical function, cancer-related symptoms, well-being (emotional, physical, social, spiritual), and health-related quality of life in individuals with cancer and their caregivers.
Methods: A search was performed using Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science from inception to April 2023; key words included cancer, choir, and group singing. Observational cohort, prospective or retrospective studies, randomized controlled studies, and crossover studies were included.
This study assessed whether the effects of contralateral acoustic stimulation (CAS) are consistent with eliciting the medial olivocochlear (MOC) reflex for measurements sensitive to outer hair cell (otoacoustic emissions, OAEs), auditory-nerve (AN; compound action potential, CAP), and brainstem/cortical (envelope-following response, EFR) function. The effects of CAS were evaluated for simultaneous measurement of OAEs, CAPs, and EFRs in participants with normal hearing. Clicks were presented at 40 or 98 Hz in three ipsilateral noise conditions (no noise, 45 dB SPL, and 55 dB SPL).
