High Protein Whole Food Snack and Albumin Outcomes in Patients With Dialysis-Dependent Chronic Kidney Disease.

Objective: Protein-energy wasting is common among patients on hemodialysis (HD). This study sought to define effects that a novel, post-HD, high-calorie, high-protein whole food snack had on patients' serum albumin (serum alb), serum phosphorus and equilibrated normalized protein catabolic rate (enPCR).

Methods: A 12-month (6 months intervention, 6 months pre/post data collection), single-center, unblinded study was conducted.

Psychopharmacological treatment of behavioural problems in Sanfilippo syndrome.

The present report illustrates successful use of psychotropic medication targeted at symptom clusters of behavioural disturbance in a 7-year-old girl with Sanfilippo syndrome, a mucopolysaccharidosis. By identifying and targeting symptom clusters, psychotropic medication was prescribed with significant results. This approach to treatment of behavioural disturbance in Sanfilippo syndrome has not been previously described to our knowledge.

Massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding after rejection of pancreatic transplants.

Background: This article highlights two cases of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding in patients on dialysis after rejection of kidney-pancreas transplants. Patient 1 was a 34-year-old female with 27 years of type I diabetes, who had a kidney-pancreas transplant in 1996, which was complicated by rejection of the kidney and pancreas in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Later in 2002, she presented in shock after experiencing cramping abdominal pain and passage of large bloody stools.
