Clinical Decisions in Pediatric Psoriasis: A Practical Approach to Systemic Therapy.

Deciding when to start and selecting a specific systemic treatment for pediatric psoriasis patients can be a complex process involving many factors. Considerations include type of psoriasis, severity, potential genetic etiologies, comorbidities, triggering events and characteristics unique to each patient. The constellation of clinical features and drug related factors may prompt selection of a specific agent.

Anogenital warts and relationship to child sexual abuse: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background/objectives: In children, distinguishing anogenital warts (AGW) acquired innocently from those acquired by child sexual abuse (CSA) is challenging. High-quality studies examining this relationship are sparse. Here, we sought to evaluate the association between AGW and sexual abuse in children 12 years of age and younger with respect to wart location, age, and gender.

International inter-rater agreement in scoring acne severity utilizing cloud-based image sharing of mobile phone photographs.

Background: Cloud-based image sharing technology allows facilitated sharing of images. Cloud-based image sharing technology has not been well-studied for acne assessments or treatment preferences, among international evaluators. We evaluated inter-rater variability of acne grading and treatment recommendations among an international group of dermatologists that assessed photographs.

Granuloma inguinale in a 51-year-old man.

Granuloma inguinale, or Donovanosis, is a rare, sexually transmitted ulcerative disease primarily affecting the genital area. In this report, we present a case of a 50-year-old man that was diagnosed with granuloma inguinale after a 2-month history of a penile ulcer. Histological analysis demonstrated the presence of Donovan bodies within macrophages, confirming the diagnosis.

A Report of Two Patients with Darier Disease and Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

We report two unique cases of patients with Darier disease and hidradenitis suppurativa. Although it is unknown whether there is a connection between the two diseases, it is possible that an interaction between sarcoendoplasmic reticulum calcium transport ATPase and Notch homolog 1, translocation-associated (Drosophila) caused both diseases in these individuals.

Cedarwood Oil as Complementary Treatment in Refractory Acne.

Acne vulgaris is a widely prevalent chronic skin disease. Although multiple treatments are available, acne can sometimes be refractory to these treatments. The use of alternative medical therapies has increased within dermatology and for acne.

Alopecia as the Presenting Symptom of Syphilis.

Alopecia can be one of the many symptoms of secondary syphilis and the clinical presentations include essential syphilitic alopecia or symptomatic syphilitic alopecia. In this report, we present a case of a patient with essential syphilitic alopecia whose sole presenting symptom of syphilis was alopecia. Despite an initial negative rapid plasma reagin (RPR) test, he was ultimately found to have syphilis on scalp biopsy.

Objective assessment of isotretinoin-associated cheilitis: Isotretinoin Cheilitis Grading Scale.

Importance: Isotretinoin remains an effective treatment for severe acne. Despite its effectiveness, it includes many side effects, of which cheilitis is the most common.

Objective: To develop an objective grading scale for assessment of isotretinoin-associated cheilitis.
