Novel approaches for leadless pacemaker implantation in the extra-cardiac Fontan cohort: Options to avoid leaded systems or epicardial pacing.

Background: Fontan surgery, a palliative procedure for single ventricle patients, often leads to the need for permanent pacing. Epicardial pacing has limitations, while transvenous pacing carries risks in the Fontan circulation. This case series introduces a novel approach of leadless pacemaker implantation in the extra-cardiac Fontan (ECF) cohort to overcome these limitations.

Assessing the Cost and Resource Use Impact of Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator Shocks in the UK CareLink Population.

Objective: High voltage devices (implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillators referred to jointly as ICDs) reduce rates of sudden cardiac death in patients with cardiovascular disease. However, shocks from ICDs may be associated with healthcare resource use (HCRU) and costs. The aim of this study was to estimate the costs associated with both appropriate and inappropriate shocks from ICDs.

New records of Nitidulidae (Nitidulidae, Coleoptera) species in Canada, Ontario, and Manitoba.

Nitidulidae trapping performed from 2018 to 2021 to characterize flight behaviors of potential vectors of the oak wilt pathogen yielded three new species records for Canada, six new species records for Ontario, and three new species records for Manitoba. The new records for Canada include Carpophilus (Ecnomorphus) corticinus reported from Ontario, C. (Myothorax) nepos reported from Ontario and Manitoba, and Glischrochilus (Librodor) obtusus reported from Ontario.

Anticoagulation for Patients Undergoing Implantation of a Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device.

Aims/background: The number of cardiac devices implanted increases year on year, as does the complexity of the patients being managed. A large proportion of this patient group have an indication for anticoagulation, and this raises challenges around the perioperative management of these agents.

Method: A quality improvement project was conducted to review current practice, understand local experience and improve patient care.

Use of CIED Generated Heart Failure Risk Score (HFRS) Alerts in an Integrated, Multi-Disciplinary Approach to HF Management-A Prospective Cohort Study.

Aim: To evaluate use of CIED-generated Heart Failure Risk Score (HFRS) alerts in an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to HF management. Methods: We undertook a prospective, single centre outcome study of patients implanted with an HFRS-enabled Medtronic CIED, generating a “high risk” alert between November 2018 and November 2020. All patients generating a “high risk” HFRS alert were managed within an integrated HF pathway.
