Metastasis of human tumors to lymph nodes (LN) is a universally negative prognostic factor. LN stromal cells (SC) play a crucial role in enabling T-cell responses, and because tumor metastases modulate their structure and function, this interaction may suppress immune responses to tumor antigens. The SC subpopulations that respond to infiltration of malignant cells into human LNs have not been defined.

Article Synopsis
  • Several dyes like Oil Red O are commonly used for detecting how mesenchymal cells turn into adipocytes, but they lack specificity for gene transcription changes.
  • We've created a gene-specific assay that uses immuno-labeling for FABP4, which allows us to visualize and measure how mesenchymal cells differentiate into fat cells.
  • This new FABP4 assay is simple and can be used in high-throughput settings, making it useful for clinical trials and drug screening related to obesity and pre-diabetes, while also helping to understand cell differences in treatments.
