Development and integration of a music therapy program in the neurologic inpatient setting: a qualitative study.

Purpose: Explore facilitators and barriers to development and integration of an inpatient music therapy (MT) program from the perspective of the patient, family member, and health care professional.

Materials And Methods: This qualitative study recruited patients on acute neurosciences/neurorehabilitation units having participated in the hospital MT program, their family, and members of their health care team. Semi-structured individual interviews and focus groups were conducted with 35 participants (14 patients, 5 family members, 16 health care professionals).

Types of Fibrocartilage.

Fibrocartilage is a transitional tissue that derives from mesenchymal tissue that lacks a perichondrium and has structural and functional properties between that of dense fibrous connective tissue and hyaline cartilage. It is comprised of densely braided collagen fibers with a low number of chondrocytes that make the tissue highly resistant to compression. It contains high levels of Type I Collagen in addition to Type II Collagen and a small component of ground substance.

"State of the Mewnion": Practices of Feral Cat Care and Advocacy Organizations in the United States.

Over the last several decades, feral cats have moved from the fringes to the mainstream in animal welfare and sheltering. Although many best practice guidelines have been published by national non-profits and veterinary bodies, little is known about how groups “in the trenches” actually operate. Our study sought to address that gap through an online survey of feral cat care and advocacy organizations based in the United States.

Complications Following Allograft and Xenograft Resurfacing of the First Metatarsal Head: A Case Series.

Ten cases using decellularized allografts and xenografts for the purpose of resurfacing the first metatarsal head are reviewed in this article. Although most of the cases were performed without any postoperative complications, the focus of this series is on 2 of the 3 cases in which destruction of the first metatarsal head was observed postoperatively due to a foreign body reaction and severe degeneration within the metatarsal head. A salvage procedure using a silicone total joint to replace the damaged surface is shown.

Late Reduction of Cocaine Cravings in a Randomized, Double-Blind Trial of Aripiprazole vs Perphenazine in Schizophrenia and Comorbid Cocaine Dependence.

Purpose: Co-occurring schizophrenia spectrum disorder and International Statistical Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision cocaine dependence present a particularly destructive constellation that is often difficult to treat. Both conditions raise dopamine transmission effects in the brain. Traditional neuroleptics block dopamine receptors, whereas aripiprazole modulates dopamine activity as an agonist/antagonist.

A multicenter comparison of the safety of oral versus intravenous acetylcysteine for treatment of acetaminophen overdose.

Unlabelled: Oral and intravenous (IV) N-acetylcysteine (NAC) are used for the treatment of acetaminophen poisoning. The objective of this multicenter study was to compare the safety of these two routes of administration.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter chart review of all patients treated with NAC for acetaminophen poisoning.
