Background: Esophageal button battery ingestion is a significant problem that can lead to significant complications such as tracheoesophageal fistula, esophageal perforation, and aortoesophageal fistula. Due to this, prompt recognition and treatment is integral in the care of these patients.
Methods: Patients who presented to a single institution from August 2015 to April 2022 with esophageal button battery ingestion were included in this study.
Tests requiring central auditory processing, such as speech perception-in-noise, are simple, time efficient, and correlate with cognitive processing. These tests may be useful for tracking brain function. Doing this effectively requires information on which tests correlate with overall cognitive function and specific cognitive domains.

Most neuropsychological tests have been constructed in Western languages, meaning they may not be appropriate for use in non-Western settings. To address this, we used an entirely nonverbal measure of cognitive ability in a sub-Saharan African sample.

This paper presents: a) the results of a quality improvement project examining the feasibility of in-person evaluation in the context of safety measures that alter test standardization, b) the impact such changes had upon neuropsychological test scores, and c) how using a hybrid model of clinical service delivery affected access to care.
Method: We compared demographic and outcome variables between patients seen during the pandemic (N = 87) to a group of patients seen in our service immediately prior to COVID-19 (N = 87).
Background: Increased aortic stiffness contributes to systolic hypertension and increased cardiovascular risk. The augmentation index (AI), ie, the percentage of central pulse pressure attributed to reflected wave overlap in systole, was proposed as a noninvasive indicator of increased arterial stiffness. We evaluated this hypothesis by investigating relations between AI and other direct measures of aortic stiffness.

MDMA-induced DA release has been shown to be dampened by 5-HT. Although stress also activates the mesolimbic DA pathway, it is unknown if chronic stress after exposure to neurotoxic doses of MDMA will augment MDMA-induced DA release in the nucleus accumbens shell (NAcc(sh)).
