The impact of comorbidities on selexipag treatment effect in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension: insights from the GRIPHON study.

Aims: The number of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients with comorbidities is increasing and there are limited data on response to PAH-targeted therapies in this population. These post hoc analyses explored the effect of selexipag in PAH patients with cardiovascular comorbidities in the GRIPHON study.

Methods And Results: Randomized patients (n = 1156) were classified using three methods: (i) by subgroups defined according to previously published comorbidity count and restrictive haemodynamic criteria: Subgroup A (<3 comorbidities and haemodynamic criteria met; n = 962) and Subgroup B (≥3 comorbidities and/or haemodynamic criteria not met; n = 144); comorbidities included body mass index ≥30 kg/m , essential hypertension, diabetes, history of coronary artery disease; (ii) by number of comorbidities, with addition of atrial fibrillation (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5); (iii) by presence of individual comorbidities.

Impact of the female and hermaphrodite forms of Opuntia robusta on the plant defence hypothesis.

The optimal defence hypothesis predicts that increased plant defence capabilities, lower levels of damage, and lower investment in vegetative biomass will occur more frequently in sexual forms with higher resource-demanding tissue production and/or younger plant parts. Survey of procedural and resuscitation requirements for paediatricians working in a non-tertiary centre: Implications for training.

Aim: There are minimal data to guide the continuing medical education (CME) of general paediatricians working in non-tertiary hospitals. The aim of this study was to determine the procedural and resuscitation skills required by non-tertiary paediatricians and the frequency with which these skills are utilised.

Methods: Over a 12-month period (December 2012 to December 2013), each of the 11 paediatricians involved in acute inpatient care at University Hospital Geelong (UHG) completed a weekly online survey regarding their inpatient clinical experience.

Methods: Emergency Department (ED) presentations and admissions to the University Hospital Geelong among patients aged 0 to 16 years over a 12-month period (2012-2013) were determined by review of hospital records and then compared with similar data collected during 1996/1997. The pollen season dynamics and the relationship among some season parameters (start, end, annual total, season phases) in Kraków, Poland, 1991-2008.

The dynamics of 15 taxa pollen seasons in Kraków, in 1991-2008 was monitored using a Burkard volumetric spore trap of the Hirst design. The highest daily pollen concentrations were achieved in the first half of May, and they were caused mainly by Betula and Pinus pollen. The second period of the high concentrations took place from the middle of July to the end of August (mainly Urtica pollen).
