The rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and socio-cultural activities along riverbanks in hilly cities are transforming land use and intensifying water infrastructure challenges. Paonta Sahib, a culturally significant town in Himachal Pradesh on the Yamuna River, along the foothills of the Himalayas exemplifies these pressures due to its religious tourism, industrialization, and mining activities. This study explores sustainable riverfront development at Paonta Sahib, addressing socio-cultural, environmental, and technical concerns essential for eco-sensitive urban planning.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a significant sex bias in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with 80% of cases diagnosed in males, making it challenging to uncover the biological reasons behind this difference.
  • Loss of function mutations leading to dysregulated mTORC1 signaling are prevalent in individuals with tuberous sclerosis (TSC), and over 50% of those with TSC are also diagnosed with ASD, indicating a strong genetic link.
  • In experiments with mice, it was found that while motor coordination deficits are similar in both male and female mice, social interaction impairments are significantly worse in males, suggesting that certain behavioral issues in ASD may vary based on sex.

Article Synopsis
  • Needle stick injuries (NSIs) pose serious health risks for healthcare workers, exposing them to blood-borne infections like HIV, HBV, and HCV; this study analyzed NSI cases over four years from a hospital in India.
  • The study recorded 115 NSI cases from 2019 to 2022, with a higher incidence among younger healthcare workers, especially nurses in the initial years, while housekeeping staff were more affected in later years; most injuries occurred during morning shifts and in the inpatient department.
  • Post-exposure prophylaxis was administered to a subset of affected workers, with a negative HIV serology status for all tested, although some cases showed positive for HBV and HCV.

Introduction: The Kayakalp guidelines for public healthcare facilities under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) focus on improving sanitation, cleanliness, and infection control at public hospitals in India. This study was conducted in a 960-bed tertiary-level teaching hospital in eastern India. Housekeeping has been a challenge in public institutions, with factors like overcrowding and resource constraints.

Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 82 patients, a significant number did not respond to steroid treatment, but the baseline histological scores did not show a strong association with the need for second-line therapy or colectomy.
  • * The conclusion suggests that these histological scores are not reliable predictors for treatment needs in ASUC, prompting a call for further research on their long-term impact.

In response to the toxic heavy metal absorbers in perovskite solar cells (PSCs), this work focuses on the development of an environmentally friendly simple solution-processed infrared (IR) absorber. In this work, a simple solution-crystallized IR-absorbing AgBiS film is reported by spin-coating silver, bismuth nitrates, and thiourea dissolved in dimethylformamide (DMF) to produce thick AgBiS film. Extensive optimization of the precursor concentrations thicknesses and conductive substrates used allow for obtaining 250 nm AgBiS film with different crystal sizes.

This systematic review was designed to answer the following question: Does chitosan provide better smear layer removal and antimicrobial efficacy than other root canal irrigants? A literature search was done using electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EBSCO host, Grey Literature Report, and Open Grey from inception to June 18, 2024. The reference lists of included articles were also hand-searched. Two reviewers independently assessed the studies' eligibility based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and performed data extraction.

Background: The gastrointestinal symptom rating scale (GSRS) is a questionnaire in English language which is designed to assess the clinical symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and peptic ulcer disease. This validated scale has questions on around 15 items and has been validated in patients with dyspepsia and IBS.

Aim: To translate and validate the English version of the GSRS questionnaire to the Hindi version.

Background: Dietary knowledge, perception and practices may have a role in determining the nutritional status of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the assessment of these patterns has infrequently been done in developing countries. We aimed to evaluate patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) about their dietary beliefs, practices and changes after the diagnosis.

Objective: To compare divorce prevalence among surgeons with that of nonsurgeon physicians.

Summary Background Data: The demanding nature of a career in surgery uniquely challenges the social well-being of a surgeon; however, its impact on marital health has not yet been well described.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using publicly available US Census data from 2017 to 2021 to investigate the prevalence of divorce across different occupations.

Elucidating the mechanistic role of osmolytes on conformations of hydrophobic prototypical macromolecules in principle is the stepping stone towards understanding the effect of osmolytes on proteins. Motivated by this, we use equilibrium simulations and umbrella sampling techniques to dissect the underlying mechanism of osmolyte-induced conformational stability of a hydrophobic polymer. Our results unveil a remarkable osmolyte-dependent conformational stabilization of the polymer.

COVID-19-related school closures may have had unintended consequences affecting the ability of health professionals with school-age children to work-particularly female professionals, who often have disproportionate child care responsibilities. We combined labor-force participation data from the Current Population Survey with measures of school closures based on cell phone mobility data to examine the association between local school closures and labor supply among female nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the six months after large-scale closure of schools at the end of the 2019-20 school year (March-August 2020), among counties with above-median school closure rates, the employment rate of female nurses with young children declined by 12.

There is a striking sex bias in the prevalence and severity of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with 80% of diagnoses occurring in males. Because the molecular etiology of ASD is likely combinatorial, including interactions across multiple genetic and environmental factors, it is difficult to investigate the physiological mechanisms driving sex-specific differences. Loss of function mutations in result in dysregulated mTORC1 signaling and underlie a multi-system disorder known as tuberous sclerosis (TSC).

We study the dynamic structure of lipid domain inclusions embedded within a phase-separated reconstituted lipid bilayer in contact with a swarming flow of gliding filamentous actin. Passive circular domains transition into highly deformed morphologies that continuously elongate, rotate, and pinch off into smaller fragments, leading to a dynamic steady state with ≈23× speedup in the relaxation of the intermediate scattering function compared with passive membrane domains driven by purely thermal forces. To corroborate experimental results, we develop a phase-field model of the lipid domains with two-way coupling to the Toner-Tu equations.

The standard way to evaluate the solid surface energy using probe liquids relies on contact angle measurements. The measured contact angles rely on visible means and are different from their nanoscopic thermodynamic values. This compromises the surface-energy predictions so much that the surface energy-values can be hundreds of percentages higher than expected based on comparisons with different methods as reported in several studies.
