Based on our previous finding that polysaccharide peptide (PSP) has substantial antiviral activity, we cultured strawberry plants infected with strawberry mild yellow edge virus (SMYEV) or strawberry vein banding virus (SVBV) in Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with PSP to test its ability to eliminate these viruses. PSP not only improved the elimination of SMYEV and SVBV but also promoted the growth and rooting of strawberry plants in tissue culture. On the 45th day, the average height of the 'Ningyu' strawberry plants in the 1-mg/ml PSP treatment group was 1.

Burns are leading causes of mortality and morbidity, including prolonged hospitalization, disfigurement, and disability. Erythropoietin (EPO) is a well-known hormone causing erythropoiesis. However, EPO may play a role in healing acute and chronic wounds due to its anti-inflammatory and pro-regenerative effects.

In this work, we described the construction of full-length infectious cDNA clones of ASGV isolate jilin-shaguo (JL-SG) using the Gibson Assembly approach (New England BioLabs). The isolate was previously detected in a Chinese pear-leaf crab apple (Malus asiatica Nakai.

We aimed to readily attach defined N-glycans to EPO through copper-catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition. EPO variants with an alkyne-bearing non-natural amino acid (Plk) at the N-glycosylation sites 24, 38, and 83 were obtained by amber suppression followed by protein purification and refolding.

Four full-length cDNA clones (pIF3-12, pIF3-14, pIF3-15, and pIF3-19) of Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV) isolate 38/85 were produced. Two of the four full-length cDNA clones (pIF3-15 and pIF3-19) proved to be infectious on Nicotiana occidentalis 37B test plants by agroinoculation and were then mechanically transmissible to healthy N.

Despite its long history in apple cultivation, the disease's causal agent has remained elusive. In this study, next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to identify and characterize several related novel viral agents from apple rubbery wood-infected plants, which have been named Apple rubbery wood virus (ARWV) 1 and 2.

Peginesatide is a synthetic pegylated homodimer of two cyclic 21-amino acid chains. It was approved for the treatment of anaemic patients with chronic kidney disease in the USA in 2012, but recalled in 2013 due to prevalent cases of acute severe anaphylactoid reactions and associated fatalities (0.

HCC-associated erythrocytosis is partially caused by the ability of several HCC cells to produce erythropoietin (EPO). Prolyl-4-hydroxylase 2 (PHD2) is an enzyme encoded by the gene EGLN1.

Defects in nuclear-cytoplasmatic transport affect fundamental processes such as development, inflammation and oxygen sensing. The transcriptional response to O2 deficiency is controlled by hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxygen deprivation (hypoxia) is a common feature of solid tumors in advanced stages. The primary cellular transcriptional responses to hypoxia are mainly mediated by the transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF). HIF consists of an oxygen-labile α-subunit (HIF-1α, -2α) and a stable β-subunit (ARNT).

To study antagonistic interactions of 'Candidatus Phytoplasma mali' strains, graft inoculation of Catharanthus roseus and Nicotiana occidentalis was performed with mild strains 1/93Vin and 1/93Tab as suppressors and three aggressive strains as challengers. Inoculation of the suppressors was carried out in either the cross-protection modus prior to grafting of the challengers or by co-inoculating suppressors and challengers. Monitoring using multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction assays revealed that, in long-term cross-protection trials with C.

Understanding the strengths and limitations of these tests is important because inaccurate results may occur if procedures designed to prevent false-negative or false-positive outcomes are not employed. This review discusses tests commonly used to identify and characterize cell-surface receptors, such as the erythropoietin receptor (EpoR).

Methods/design: This is a large, prospective, randomized, double-blind, multi-center study, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and fully approved by the designated ethics committee. The trial, which is to investigate the effects of EPO in severely burned patients, is in its recruitment phase and is being carried out in 13 German burn care centers.
