Group Medical Visits Using an Empowerment-based Model as Treatment for Women With Chronic Pain in an Underserved Community.

Background: Over the past decade, group medical visits have become more prevalent. Group medical visits may have some advantages in treating chronic illnesses such as chronic pain as they can be more patient centered. The empowerment model is a novel approach used to provide support, education, and healthy activities guided by participants.

Pediatric Obesity Empowerment Model Group Medical Visits (POEM-GMV) as Treatment for Pediatric Obesity in an Underserved Community.

Background: This is a retrospective cohort study to evaluate a novel group medical visit (GMV) program using an empowerment curriculum as treatment for pediatric obesity in a federally qualified community health center.

Methods: Biometric and self-reported data were reviewed from 417 overweight or obese children ages 5-18 attending the pediatric obesity empowerment model GMV program (POEM-GMV) at least twice during a 3-year period. Variables were evaluated using paired means t-test.

Impact of a group medical visit program on Latino health-related quality of life.

Context: Movement toward the Medical Home and group medical visits (GMV).

Objective: To investigate the impact of a GMV program in an underserved Latino community.

Design: Year-long observational community-based research pilot study evaluating the impact of twice weekly GMVs on quality of life, depression, and loneliness in Latinos with diabetes and other risk factors for heart disease.

Loneliness and pregnancy in an urban Latino community: associations with maternal age and unscheduled hospital utilization.

The objective is to compare loneliness in a pregnant population to a non-pregnant control group, and to evaluate loneliness and unscheduled hospital visits during pregnancy. A prospective cohort study in a Latino urban community including 53 consecutive pregnant women in their first trimester, and 61 non-pregnant women as a control. The UCLA Loneliness Scale version 3, and demographic information was collected.
