Emerging Techniques in Pediatric Ultrasound, with Emphasis on Infants.

Ultrasound is an important modality to assess pediatric patients and uses continue to increase. In this review, several emerging applications of ultrasound in pediatric patients are detailed, focusing on diseases impacting infants, including necrotizing enterocolitis, malrotation with midgut volvulus, and liver lesion characterization.

Quality Improvement Campaign Improved Utilization of Rapid Sequence MRI for Diagnosis of Pediatric Appendicitis.

Introduction: Appendicitis is the most common indication for emergency general surgery in the pediatric population. Computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be used for diagnosis when ultrasound findings are equivocal. However, CT involves unnecessary radiation exposure if MRI is available.

Isolated lesions of the suprasternal notch in pediatric patients.

Background: Palpable masses of the head and neck are a common indication for imaging in the pediatric population. Midline lesions of the infrahyoid neck, particularly lesions isolated to the suprasternal notch, are not well studied.

Objective: To delineate the histopathological and imaging spectrum of masses that occur within and isolated to the suprasternal notch.

Renal myxoma in a pediatric transplant recipient.

Renal myxoma is a very rare benign neoplasm seen almost exclusively in adults with only 16 reported cases in the literature. All of these cases have been reported in native kidneys with none being reported in a transplant kidney. We report the case of a renal myxoma in a 17-year-old boy's transplant kidney that was found as an incidental mass on ultrasonography and further evaluated with CT and PET scans.
