  • Two major train crash incidents in Los Angeles in 2005 and 2008 revealed that victims were initially underutilizing trauma centers, leading to changes in disaster response plans.
  • Analysis of data from the two incidents showed significant improvement in the 2008 MCI, with 93% of severely injured patients transported to trauma centers compared to 56% in 2005.
  • The findings indicate that the new trauma system performance program effectively enhanced patient distribution based on injury severity, demonstrating better overall outcomes in response to mass casualty incidents.
