Background: To evaluate the capacity of BARS to predict 90-day, 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year survival after liver transplantation (LTx). The Balance of Risk Score (BARS), proposed by the Swiss Hepato-pancreato-biliary and Transplant Center, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland, was conceptualized to determine survival after LTx preemptively.

Sample And Methods: This was a retrospective observational study on 866 cases of LTx among adults (>18 years) performed within the transplantation program at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2015.

We reviewed the history, volume, outcomes, uniqueness, and challenges of living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in Latin America. We used the data from the Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Society, local transplant societies, and opinions from local transplant experts. There are more than 160 active liver transplant teams in Latin America, but only 30 centers have used LDLT in the past 2 years.

Intestinal transplantation has shown exceptional growth over the past 10 years. At the end of the 1990's, intestinal transplantation moved out of the experimental realm to become a routine practice in treating patients with severe complications related to total parenteral nutrition and intestinal failure. In the last years, several centers reported an increasing improvement in survival outcomes (about 80%), during the first 12 months after surgery, but long-term survival is still a challenge.

Background: The worldwide rising demand for cadaveric donors in liver transplantation is an important incentive for the development of alternative transplantation options, such as living donors. A precise evaluation of surgical complications is, therefore, considered to be an important issue in this setting.

Aim: Present a retrospective analysis of 126 living donors hepatectomies undertaken at our centre.

Arterial reconstructions are pivotal, particularly in pediatric LDLT. We describe microsurgical reconstruction technique with 6x loupes and the clinical course of the first 23 less than 10 kg recipients in an initial LDLT program at a developing country. From March 2002 to October 2008, 286 liver transplantation were performed in 279 patients at our unit.
