Fibronectin (FN) is a multifunctional extracellular matrix protein that plays an important role in cell proliferation, adhesion, and migration. FN expression or its role in colitis is not known. The goal of this study is to characterize FN expression, regulation, and role during intestinal inflammation.

Enhanced expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is associated with human lung tumor invasion and/or metastasis. We have demonstrated that fibronectin (FN), a matrix glycoprotein, stimulates human non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cell proliferation. The current study examines the effect of FN on MMP-9 expression in NSCLC cells.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Jeff D Ritzenthaler"

  • - Jeff D Ritzenthaler's research primarily focuses on the extracellular matrix protein fibronectin and its roles in various cellular processes related to cancer and inflammation, particularly in lung carcinoma and intestinal inflammation.
  • - A significant finding from his studies indicates that fibronectin enhances the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) through specific signaling pathways (c-Fos, ERK, and PI3K), which is crucial for understanding tumor invasion and metastasis in lung cancer.
  • - Additionally, his work has explored the expression and function of fibronectin during intestinal inflammation, highlighting its importance in cell proliferation, adhesion, and migration in the context of conditions like colitis.
