A family physician's open-ended commitment to the patient, not limited by the type of health problem or by a defined endpoint opens the door to the patients' world. Family physicians are uniquely privileged to provide all the key aspects of primary care-first contact care, comprehensive care, coordination and personalisation of care. The family physician as the trained primary care clinician is the interface between the illness experience of patients in primary care and the healthcare system in which patients undergo treatment.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of all adult and pediatric orbital fractures between 2012-2022 at a level 1 trauma center. Ocular injuries were categorized into severe, moderate, and mild.
Purpose: To describe gender representation at 8 national ophthalmology conferences, stratified by role, session category, and subspecialty.
Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study.
Methods: Data were examined on 3817 presenters at the 2019 American Academy of Ophthalmology subspecialty days, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Glaucoma Society, American Society of Retina Specialists, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, and American Uveitis Society meetings.
Ipilimumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor used in the treatment of metastatic melanoma, can cause immune-related adverse events including rare ocular-related inflammation. This is a case of a 54-year-old man with metastatic melanoma and bilateral orbital inflammation associated with ipilimumab that occurred after drug rechallenge 6 years after initial orbital inflammation with ipilimumab use. Imaging revealed tendon-involving myositis.

There is limited published information on virtual ophthalmology residency interviews. The study aimed (1) to assess applicant, selection committee member, and resident opinions of technical quality, communication quality, and ability to assess applicant or program "fit" during virtual interviews; (2) to determine which interview format-in-person or virtual-each party would prefer in the future; and (3) to survey which residency resources applicants found helpful.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA theoretical model is herein proposed to account for changes in the normalized differential reflectance, ΔR/R, of well-defined single crystal Pt(111) surfaces|aqueous electrolyte interfaces. It assumes that ΔR/R is proportional to the area of the electrode either bare or covered by neutral and/or nominally charged species and, for a specific type of site, is modulated by the applied potential, E. Correlations between the coverage of the various species and E were obtained from data reported in the literature or by coulometric analysis of linear voltammetric scans.

This Account summarizes efforts made in our laboratories toward the development and implementation of methods for the in situ electrical, optical, and spectroscopic characterization of microparticles of a variety of such materials, including Ni hydroxide, Zn, carbon, and lithiated Mn and Co oxides. In the case of Ni hydroxide, the much darker appearance of NiOOH compared to the virtually translucent character of virgin Ni(OH)2 allowed for the spatial and temporal evolution of charge flow within spherical microparticles of Ni(OH)2 to be monitored in real time during the first scan toward positive potentials using computer-controlled video imaging.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA porous Teflon ring|solid disk electrode is herein described specifically designed for acquiring online mass spectrometric measurements under well-defined forced convection created by liquid emerging from a circular nozzle impinging on the disk under wall-jet conditions. Measurements were performed for the oxidation of hydrazine, N(2)H(4), in a deaerated phosphate buffer electrolyte (pH 7) on Au, a process known to yield dinitrogen as the product. The N(2)(+) ion currents, measured by the mass spectrometer, i(N(2)(+)), as well as the corresponding polarization curves recorded simultaneously displayed very similar s-like shapes when plotted as a function of the potential applied to the Au disk.
