Statement Of Problem: New materials have emerged in the dental field to replace the cobalt-chrome (CoCr) alloy used for the metal frameworks in removable partial denture (RPD) such as Titanium (Ti) and PolyEtherEtherKetone (PEEK). However, few studies have demonstrated their mechanical and biological performance.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to compare the performance of Ti and PEEK in RPD using CoCr metal framework as a reference.

We present a calibration system called Dried Water Column (DWC). It applies pressure on a sensor with a latex finger filled with water, which pressure is controlled with a water column. This is intended to mimic the way the deformable tongue mechanically interacts with the hard palate.

Impact of the Microstructure of CAD/CAM Blocks on the Bonding Strength and the Bonded Interface.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between the microstructure of CAD/CAM blocks and the quality of adhesion as function of the surface treatment and resin cement type.

Materials And Methods: Two nano-ceramic composite resin CAD/CAM blocks, Lava Ultimate (LU) and Cerasmart (CS), and two Leucite-reinforced glass ceramic CAD/CAM IPS blocks, Empress CAD (EM) and Initial LRF (IR), received either Hydrofluoric acid (HF) or sandblasting (SB) surface treatments. The blocks were then luted using two dual-cure resin cements, LinkForce (LF) and Multilink Automix (ML) with their corresponding silanes, resulting in 16 study groups.

Accurate Tongue-Palate Pressure Sensing Device to Study Speech Production and Swallowing in Patients with Complete Denture.

Objectives:  The mechanical interactions between tongue and palate are crucial for speech production and swallowing. In this study, we presented examples of pressure signals that can be recorded with our PRESLA system (PRESLA holds for the French expression "PRESsion de la LAngue" [Pressure from the tongue]) to assess these motor functions, and we illustrate which issues can be tackled with such a system.

Tissue Engineering for Periodontal Ligament Regeneration: Biomechanical Specifications.

The periodontal biomechanical environment is very difficult to investigate. By the complex geometry and composition of the periodontal ligament (PDL), its mechanical behavior is very dependent on the type of loading (compressive versus tensile loading; static versus cyclic loading; uniaxial versus multiaxial) and the location around the root (cervical, middle, or apical). These different aspects of the PDL make it difficult to develop a functional biomaterial to treat periodontal attachment due to periodontal diseases.

Vector-borne transmission of Zika virus in Europe, southern France, August 2019.

On 1 October 2019, a locally-acquired Zika virus disease case was laboratory confirmed in Hyères, Var department. Active case finding identified two additional locally-acquired cases living within 90 m, with symptom onset 8 days before the index case. Extensive patient interviews did not yield information supporting transmission through sexual contact or substances of human origin.

Study of tongue-palate pressure patterns during the hold phase in the production of French denti-alveolar and velar stops.

The hold phase of the stop consonants is crucial for a successful production of the release and the acoustic burst. Concurrently, it is also associated with weak acoustic energy and minimal movement, so that conventional acoustic and kinematic approaches are not relevant to investigate motor control. This paper presents an innovative experimental method to study speech motor control during this phase, based on meticulous measurement of the time variation of the mechanical pressure exerted by the tongue against the palate and also characterizing tongue-palate interaction.

Marginal and internal fit of CAD-CAM inlay/onlay restorations: A systematic review of in vitro studies.

Statement Of Problem: Different parameters can influence the adaptation of computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) inlay/onlay restorations. However, systematic reviews to identify and discuss these parameters are lacking.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to summarize the scientific literature investigating all parameters that can influence both the marginal and internal adaptation of CAD-CAM inlay/onlay restorations.

Preliminary report of an autochthonous chikungunya outbreak in France, July to September 2017.

In August 2017, an autochthonous chikungunya case was reported in south-east France. By mid-September, eight additional autochthonous cases were found in the index case's neighbourhood, where the chikungunya virus vector was observed. Statement Of Problem: Recent polymer-based computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) materials have been commercialized for inlay restorations, a polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network (PICN) and composite resin nanoceramics. Little independent evidence regarding their mechanical properties exists. Internal adaptation is an important factor for the clinical success and longevity of a restoration, and data concerning this parameter for inlays made with these blocks are scarce.

Large number of imported chikungunya cases in mainland France, 2014: a challenge for surveillance and response.

During the summer of 2014, all the pre-requisites for autochthonous transmission of chikungunya virus are present in southern France: a competent vector, Aedes albopictus, and a large number of travellers returning from the French Caribbean islands where an outbreak is occurring. We describe the system implemented for the surveillance of chikungunya and dengue in mainland France. From 2 May to 4 July 2014, there were 126 laboratory-confirmed imported chikungunya cases in mainland France.

Autochthonous case of dengue in France, October 2013.

In October 2013, autochthonous dengue fever was diagnosed in a laboratory technician in Bouches-du-Rhone, southern France, a department colonised by Aedes albopictus since 2010. After ruling out occupational contamination, we identified the likely chain of local vector-borne transmission from which the autochthonous case arose. Though limited, this second occurrence of autochthonous dengue transmission in France highlights that efforts should be continued to rapidly detect dengue virus introduction and prevent its further dissemination in France.

This article describes a technique for placing a radio-based tagging transponder into a complete denture. The data stored in the transponder can be detected with a reading device, thus enabling the denture wearer to be identified.

Report on the determination of occlusal vertical dimension and centric relation using swallowing in edentulous patients.

When constructing a complete denture, the correct vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and centric relation (CR) can be difficult to determine. The aim of this study was to compare the swallowing technique used to determine the maxillomandibular relationship with a conventional technique. Fifteen edentulous patients were selected, each having a complete denture.

[Prognostic evaluation of severe head injuries in children].

In 34 children overcoming a severe head injury (coma greater than 1 d, mean: 10 d), the follow-up (mean: 25 m) has been correlated with several data. 1) The quality of life, according to a 3 grade-score, is mostly dependent upon the degree of neuropsychological sequelae. [Congenital hydrocephalus after intraventricular hemorrhage in utero].

A case of congenital hydrocephalus following a foetal intraventricular bleeding is reported. The diagnosis was made at 36th week by ultrasonography. Whether this mechanism could be involved in some cases of "idiopathic" congenital hydrocephalus is discussed.
