Unlabelled: The aim was to study the prognostic impact of tumor infiltration of the subserosa in colonic adenocarcinoma, by evaluating the degree of tumor infiltration in the subserosa (DISS), tumor-serosa distance (DTS), and invasion of the elastic boundary of the subserosa (ILE) after elastic fiber staining.

Material And Methods: All patients operated on for colonic adenocarcinoma classified as pT3 without lymph node or visceral metastasis operated on at the CHU d'Amiens between 2004 and 2017 were included. All slides were reviewed by 2 pathologists.

Article Synopsis
  • Recto-colic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a common post-transplant complication, and the study aimed to establish histological markers for diagnosis and prognosis.
  • A total of 119 patients were reviewed; 67 had confirmed GVHD, identified by higher counts of apoptotic bodies (AB) in biopsies, with significant differences in staining methods.
  • A diagnostic threshold of 4 AB per 10 crypts signals GVHD, while more than 8 AB indicates a poor prognosis, with additional findings of eosinophilic cell-lining in glands suggesting further diagnostic potential.

Material And Methods: From March 2017 to March 2018 the colonic biopsies of patients presenting with chronic diarrhea were stained with Hematoxylin Eosin and anti-Treponema pallidum antibody. The positive cases were also stained with Steiner stain.
