A method is described for the absolute quantification of double-quantum filtered spectra of spin-3/2 nuclei ((23)Na). The method was tested on a model system, a cationic exchange resin for which the number of Na(+) binding sites was quantitatively controlled. The theoretical and experimental approaches were validated on samples with different Na(+) concentrations.

The aim of this work was to explore in vivo the metabolism of the basal ganglia in a rat model of Parkinson's disease. (13)C NMR spectroscopy was used to monitor the synthesis of glutamate/glutamine from [2-(13)C] sodium acetate. (13)C label incorporation in glutamate at the carbon C4 was measured in the brain of rats in different physiopathological states and after antiparkinsonian treatment.

The spinal cord is the site of traumatic injuries, the devastating consequences of which constitute a public health problem in our societies. So far, there is no efficient repair therapeutic approach, and this is mainly due to the great difficulty for elaborating predictive experimental models of this pathology. Up to now, most pathophysiological studies were based on postmortem evaluation of the quantity and extent of the lesions, and their comparison in-between human and rodent specimen.
