The freshwater Hydra polyp is a versatile model to study whole-body regeneration from a developmental as well as a cellular point of view. The outstanding regenerative capacities of Hydra are based on its three populations of adult stem cells located in the central body column of the animal. There, these three populations, gastrodermal epithelial, epidermal epithelial, and interstitial, continuously cycle in homeostatic conditions, and their activity is locally regulated after mid-gastric bisection.

CD19 is a B cell-specific receptor that regulates the threshold of B cell receptor (BCR)-mediated cell proliferation. A CD47xCD19 bispecific antibody (biAb) was generated to target and deplete B cells via multiple antibody-mediated mechanisms. Interestingly, the biAb, constructed of a CD19 binding arm and a CD47 binding arm, inhibited BCR-mediated B-cell proliferation with an effect even more potent than a CD19 monoclonal antibody (mAb).

Article Synopsis
  • Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) help control immune responses, which means they can stop the body from attacking itself (autoimmunity) or allow it to fight infections.
  • In lymph nodes, pDCs make a special protein called IDO, which helps them work better with another kind of immune cell called Treg cells.
  • During a disease called EAE, pDCs use IDO to help Tregs calm down other immune cells, making the illness less severe.
