Surgical Obliteration of a Filum Terminale Arteriovenous Fistula Following Aborted Endovascular Embolization: Illustrative Case Report and Literature Review.

Arteriovenous fistulas of the filum terminale are rare vascular malformations that predominantly affect males and can present with various neurological symptoms. In this study, we indexed previously published cases of filum terminale arteriovenous fistulas demonstrating that endovascular and microsurgical management are both proven to be appropriate and successful treatment modalities with low complication rates. Endovascular treatment is far less invasive; however, it is associated with higher failure rates, which need to be managed surgically.

Purpose: Immune Checkpoints Inhibitors (ICI) have changed the therapeutic landscape of metastatic renal cell carcinoma first-line treatment with complete response (CR) at metastatic sites observed in 10 to 15% of cases. Delayed nephrectomy could be discussed for patients having a clinical benefit from immunotherapy-based treatment. However, it is unclear whether prior immunotherapy exposure adversely influences the complexity of surgery.

Background And Objectives: The pharmacokinetics (PK) of piperacillin/tazobactam (PIP/TAZ) is highly variable across different patient populations and there are controversies regarding non-linear elimination as well as the fraction unbound of PIP (f). This has led to a plethora of subgroup-specific models, increasing the risk of misusing published models when optimising dosing regimens. In this study, we aimed to develop a single model to simultaneously describe the PK of PIP/TAZ in diverse patient populations and evaluate the current dosing recommendations by predicting the PK/pharmacodynamics (PD) target attainment throughout life.

Introduction: Leveraging every interaction between patients and healthcare professionals constitutes an opportunity to foster behavior change. We developed a mobile Screening and Brief Intervention (mSBI) designed to screen for and intervene with multiple health behaviors, based on a personalized feedback. The objectives of the present study were to assess its feasibility during consultations for chronic conditions, collect users' opinions, and to investigate patients' behaviors and intention to change.

Botulinum toxin injection for retrograde cricopharyngeal muscle dysfunction syndrome.

Retrograde cricopharyngeal dysfunction (RCPD) syndrome renders patients unable to belch, causing disabling symptoms that impact quality of life. Glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation are the two major metabolic pathways for cellular ATP production. The metabolic plasticity displayed by cancer cells allows them to effectively shift between each of these pathways as a means of adapting to various growth conditions, thus ensuring their survival, proliferation and disease progression. Metabolic plasticity also provides cancer cells with the ability to circumvent many traditional monotherapies aimed at only one or the other of the major ATP-producing pathways.

Determination of time lag by accurate monitoring of pressure decay in a new generation constant volume system.

The time-lag method is the standard approach for evaluating membrane permeability, diffusivity and solubility in a single gas permeation experiment. The conventional time-lag method relies on accurately monitoring the pressure rise in a constant volume downstream from the membrane following a change in pressure upstream from the membrane. The same information could be extracted from the upstream pressure decay in the same time-lag experiment.

Background: An adverse event (AE) is any undesirable medical manifestation in an individual who has received pharmacological treatment. To be considered serious (SAE), it needs to meet minimally one of the severity criteria by Health Canada. The most recent data (2006) suggested that AEs were underreported (<6%) to health authorities.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to propose an update of the French guidelines from the national committee ccAFU on upper tract urothelial carcinomas (UTUC).

Methods: A systematic Medline search for epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options and follow-up of UTUC was performed between 2022 and 2024 to evaluate available references and their levels of evidence.

Results: UTUC is a rare malignancy with specific risk factors, including exposure to aristolochic acid and Lynch syndrome.
