With growth and exponential globe trotter traveling of the human population, and many more conducive factors, the likelihood of merging and melting viruses capable of infecting humans in a cooperative fashion, has increased markedly. Hence, viruses that were limited to a particular region of the planet, or to certain population groups, have become capable of infecting humans on a pandemic scale. Some viruses not only can infect pregnant women, but also expand to the amnotic fluid and fetus.

The aim of the present phase I/II study was to evaluate the safety, immune responses and clinical activity of a vaccine based on autologous dendritic cells (DC) loaded with an allogeneic tumor cell lysate in advanced melanoma patients. DC derived from monocytes were generated in serum-free medium containing GM-CSF and IL-13 according to Good Manufacturing Practices. Fifteen patients with metastatic melanoma (stage III or IV) received four subcutaneous, intradermal, and intranodal vaccinations of both DC loaded with tumor cell lysate and DC loaded with hepatitis B surface protein (HBs) and/or tetanus toxoid (TT).

Purpose: We assessed the efficacy and safety of adoptive immunotherapy administered to 17 patients with TaGIII or recurrent TaGII superficial bladder cancer following transurethral tumor resection.

Materials And Methods: Macrophage activated killer (MAK) cells were obtained from autologous mononuclear cells harvested by apheresis, after in vitro culture for 7 days and activation with interferon-gamma on the last day of culture. The patients received 6 weekly intravesical infusions of approximately 2 x 10(8) cells each.

Study Objectives: Intrapleural immunotherapy has shown some activity in patients with malignant mesothelioma. We conducted a multicentric pilot phase II study to evaluate the tolerance and the activity of intrapleurally infused autologous human activated macrophages (AM Phi) in patients with stage IA, IB, and IIA malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM).

Design: AM Phi derived from in vitro monocyte culture were infused into the pleura of patients every week for 8 consecutive weeks.
