Background: The Hepatic hydrothorax is a pleural effusion related to portal hypertension; its diagnosis and therapeutic management may be difficult. The aims of this article are which follows: To gather the practices of hepatogastroenterologists or pulmonologists practitioners regarding the diagnosis and management of the hepatic hydrothorax.
Methods: Practitioners from 13 French- speaking countries were invited to answer an online questionnaire on the hepatic hydrothorax diagnosis and its management.
Article Synopsis
- A noninvasive medical device utilizing ultrasound elastography, specifically Shear Wave Elastography (SWE), was evaluated against Fibroscan® (FS) to measure liver hardness in patients with chronic liver diseases.
- Between January and October 2017, a total of 476 patients were assessed, revealing a significant correlation between SWE and FS measurements, especially in patients with chronic viral hepatitis.
- The study concluded that SWE is a reliable alternative to FS for evaluating liver fibrosis, providing noninvasive options even for patients who could not undergo FS testing.
