The glutamatergic signaling pathway, which is mediated by N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, is crucial for osteoblast differentiation and bone function. Dextromethorphan (DXM), a widely used antitussive, is a noncompetitive antagonist of the NMDA receptor. However, the effects of DXM on osteoblast and bone regeneration remain unclear.

Background: The site of death is a crucial factor associated with the tumor's progression and complications arising from it; therefore, analyzing nationwide patterns in place of death is essential. The present paper aims to evaluate the disparities in place of death for malignant neoplasm of the meninges using the CDC-WONDER (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-ranging ONline Data for Epidemiologic Research) database over 22 years (1999-2020).

Methods: CDC-WONDER data from 1999 to 2020 were analyzed to investigate mortality trends related to malignant neoplasm of the meninges.

Objective: Mounting evidence suggests that histone deacetylases (HDAC) inhibitors reduce cartilage destruction in animal models of osteoarthritis (OA). Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-blocking treatment for OA may provide effective joint protection by slowing joint damage. To investigate the effects of intraperitoneal administration of etanercept (a TNF-α inhibitor) on OA development in rats and changes in the nociceptive behavior of rats and expression of HDACs, RUNX2, and MMP13 in cartilage.

Objective: Postoperative pain remains one of the most common complaints after surgery, and appropriate treatments are limited.

Methods: We therefore investigated the effect of the anti-nociceptive properties of magnesium sulfate (MgSO), an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, on incision-induced postoperative pain and peripheral and central nervous system inflammation.

Results: We found that local MgSO administration dose-dependently increases paw withdrawal latency, indicating reduced peripheral postoperative pain.

This study investigated whether oral supplementation with protease-soluble chicken type II collagen (PSCC-II) mitigates the progression of anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT)-induced osteoarthritis (OA) in rats. Eight-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to the following groups: control, sham, ACLT, group A (ACLT + pepsin-soluble collagen type II collagen (C-II) with type I collagen), group B (ACLT + Amano M-soluble C-II with type I collagen), group C (ACLT + high-dose Amano M-soluble C-II with type I collagen), and group D (ACLT + unproteolyzed C-II). Various methods were employed to analyze the knee joint: nociceptive tests, microcomputed tomography, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and joint disorder worldwide. Metabolic reprogramming of osteoarthritic chondrocytes from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis results in the accumulation of lactate from glycolytic metabolite pyruvate by lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA), leading to cartilage degeneration. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of the intra-articular administration of oxamate (LDHA inhibitor) against OA development and glycolysis-related protein expression in experimental OA rats.

Background: Interpretations of the electrocardiogram (ECG) are often prepared using software outside the electronic health record (EHR) and imported via an interface as a narrative note. Thus, natural language processing is required to create a computable representation of the findings. Challenges include misspellings, nonstandard abbreviations, jargon, and equivocation in diagnostic interpretations.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common articular degenerative disease characterized by chronic pain, joint inflammation, and movement limitations, which are significantly influenced by aberrant epigenetic modifications of numerous OA-susceptible genes. Recent studies revealed that both the abnormal activation and differential expression of histone deacetylases (HDACs) might contribute to OA pathogenesis. In this study, we investigated the chondroprotective effects of a marine-derived HDAC inhibitor, panobinostat, on anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT)-induced experimental OA rats.

Central nervous system ischemic injury features neuronal dysfunction, inflammation and breakdown of vascular integrity. Here we show that activation of endothelial caspase-9 after hypoxia-ischemia is a critical event in subsequent dysfunction of the blood-retina barrier, using a panel of interrelated ophthalmic in vivo imaging measures in a mouse model of retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Rapid nonapoptotic activation of caspase-9 and its downstream effector caspase-7 in endothelial cells promotes capillary ischemia and retinal neurodegeneration.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common solid tumor of the bone that most often affects adolescents. The introduction of chemotherapy for the treatment of OS has largely improved the survival rates of patients with localized tumors. However, the 5-year survival rate of OS patients with relapsed or metastatic disease is only 10 to 20%.

Deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in the joint or synovium is the major factor in Gouty arthritis (GA). The clinical features of chronic and recurrent GA include pain and the subsequent development of chronic tophaceous GA with multiple tophi deposits accompanied by osteolysis. The majority of previous animal studies have focused on MSU-induced acute GA without making observations regarding osteolysis.

We present an approach to airway management in a patient with machete injuries culminating in near-complete cricotracheal transection, in addition to a gunshot wound to the neck. Initial airway was established by direct intubation through the cricotracheal wound. Once the airway was secured, a bronchoscopy-guided orotracheal intubation was performed with simultaneous retraction of the cricotracheal airway to optimize the surgical field.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a common malignant bone cancer. The relatively high density of a person's bone structure means low permeability for drugs, and so finding drugs that can be more effective is important and should not be delayed. MSPs are marine antimicrobial peptides (AMP) and natural compounds extracted from Nile tilapia ().

Osteoclasts are multinucleated giant cells of macrophage/monocyte lineage, and cell differentiation with the upregulation of osteoclast-related proteins is believed to play a major role in the destruction of the joints in the course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), can be overexpressed in RA and lead to osteoclastogenesis. In a previous study, we found that cultured-type soft coral-derived excavatolide B (Exc-B) exhibited anti-inflammatory properties.
