Cardiac arrest: should we consider norepinephrine instead of epinephrine?

A patient scheduled for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy had an anaphylactic shock during induction of anesthesia. After the injection of vecuronium, an unusual fall of arterial pressure occurred, with bradycardia, enlargement of the QRS complex, then a circulatory arrest. Chest compressions were initiated, while intravenous epinephrine 1 mg was administered.

Feasibility of noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring by bioreactance for air-evacuated casualties.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of hemodynamic monitoring by bioreactance during the air evacuation of war casualties.

Methods: From June 2011 to January 2012, the French Air Force used a noninvasive bioreactance monitor during the aeromedical evacuation of patients with severe battle injury. Patients were continuously monitored from takeoff (baseline) until arrival.

A case of combat-related scorpion envenomation in Afghanistan.

We report a case of scorpion envenomation occurring during combat in Tagab district, province of Kapisa, Afghanistan. A French soldier was stung by a yellow scorpion (suspected Androctonus australis) and sustained systemic envenomation with hemodynamic and neurological manifestations. We discuss the clinical features, prevention, and management of a scorpion sting.

Case report: combination artemether-lumefantrine and haemolytic anaemia following a malarial attack.

A case of a patient who was admitted to hospital in Paris, France, in February 2001 with autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, probably due to artemether-lumefantrine therapy, is presented. Such a complication has previously been observed in patients receiving drugs containing aryl-amino-alcohols but never before in a patient receiving lumefantrine and may be associated with the increase in episodes of blackwater fever seen in recent years.
