When neither surgical valve replacement nor transcatheter aortic valve implantation is possible, performing an apico-aortic conduit remains a therapeutic option. This procedure has become rare and the rigid angled apical connectors usually used to facilitate ventricular anastomosis are no longer commercially available. We described the technique that we performed on a 60-year-old patient with readily available material.

Excellent outcomes of angioplasty/stenting for the post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) have been reported, notably regarding objective criteria in the vast French SFICV cohort. Differences may exist between patient-reported and objective outcomes. We investigated this possibility by using validated scales because significative correlations are discordant in the literature between patency and patient-reported characteristics.

Objective: We aimed to assess the effects of remote ischemic pre-conditioning (RIPC) on the incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) after an intravenous (IV) or intra-arterial injection of contrast medium (CM) in patient and control groups.

Materials And Methods: This prospective, randomized, single-blinded, controlled trial included 26 patients who were hospitalized for the evaluation of the feasibility of transcatheter aortic valve implantation and underwent investigations including contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT), with Mehran risk scores greater than or equal to six. All the patients underwent four cycles of five minute-blood pressure cuff inflation followed by five minutes of total deflation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated immediate hypersensitivity reactions (IH) to iodinated and gadolinium-based contrast media (ICM; GBCM), focusing on differentiating between allergic and non-allergic responses, which is crucial for future medical treatment decisions.
  • - Over 245 patients were analyzed through skin tests and other clinical evaluations, revealing an allergic reaction rate of 19.6% for ICM and 27.8% for GBCM, with notable cross-reactivity among patients.
  • - The findings indicated that allergic IH was linked to more severe reactions and quicker onset than non-allergic IH, highlighting the need for more sensitive skin testing methods to better identify allergic responses to contrast agents.

We report a 61-year-old woman with a history of untreated inflammatory symptoms, who underwent a Bentall procedure for a rapidly evolving aneurysm. Postoperatively, she presented with a sub-sternal pulsatile mass communicating with a periaortic collection. After excluding surgical and infectious complications, an inflammatory seroma due to an uncontrolled vasculitis was suspected.

Computer-aided imaging can aid complex endovascular repair of aortic dissections in locating the narrow true lumen and identifying perfusion of visceral vessels by the true and/or false lumen. Although these anatomic data are available for analysis during planning, they are not readily available during the procedure with conventional imaging systems. We report the use of "fusion imaging" to facilitate the treatment of a postdissection thoracoabdominal aneurysm.

Background: Aneurysmal regression is a reliable marker for long-lasting success after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). The aim of this study was to identify the preoperative factors that can predictably lead to aneurysmal sac regression after EVAR, according to the reporting standards of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (SVS/ISCVS).

Methods: From 199 patients treated by EVAR between 2000 and 2009, 164 completed computed tomography angiographies and duplex scan follow-up images were available.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the changes in size of the aortic neck and iliac necks after endovascular treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in 61 patients from a pool of 179 who had AAA repair from 2003 to 2007.
  • Measurements of the aortic and iliac arteries were taken at multiple points, and the data were analyzed to explore any correlations between the aortic and iliac neck diameters over time.
  • Results indicated that all diameters increased significantly, but the changes in the proximal neck and iliac arteries were largely independent, except for a weak correlation noted between specific measurements; some patients experienced endoleaks requiring additional intervention.

In the acute stage (less than two weeks), surgery is indicated for Stanford type A aortic dissections. With respect to the initial work-up, surgery consists in replacing the ascending aorta, sometimes the aortic arch (with supra aortic vessels reimplantation), and aortic valve replacement (valve replacement, Bentall valved tube or valve sparing Tyron David technique). Ischemic visceral complications must be searched for and treated by endovascular techniques or surgery.

Background: Meta-analyses have confirmed the high performance of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) in coronary stenosis detection. Recent reports have described the study of left ventricular anatomy and function and coronary venous anatomy with MSCT.

Aims: We sought to compare, in patients with cardiomyopathy of unknown origin, the performance of MSCT versus angiography for significant coronary artery disease detection and versus transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) for left ventricular anatomy and function evaluation, and to assess its ability to characterize coronary venous anatomy.
