γ-Band oscillations (GBOs) are generated by fast-spiking interneurons (FSIs) and are critical for cognitive functions. Abnormalities in GBOs are frequently observed in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and are strongly correlated with cognitive impairment. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.
