Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify factors that can be used to predict severe neutropenia (grade 3 or higher) in patients with advanced urothelial cancer after cisplatin-based systemic chemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: The study examined 79 Korean patients with advanced urothelial cancer who were treated with several cycles of cisplatin-based systemic chemotherapy from May 2006 to May 2015. Risk factors for neutropenia (grade 3 or higher) and for the occurrence of neutropenia (grade 3 or higher) during the first cycle of chemotherapy were examined.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of early administration of dutasteride in patients with detectable serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels after radical prostatectomy (RP).

Materials And Methods: A prospective open-label study, with a cumulative analysis of asymptomatic increase in PSA following RP, was conducted from January 2005 to December 2013. An early increase in PSA level was defined as detectable serum PSA level> 0.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance in the normal rectal flora of patients undergoing transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate biopsy in Korea.

Methods: Between May 2010 and October 2010, rectal swabs were cultured from patients before transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate biopsy in three tertiary referral centers of Jeonbuk Province, Korea. Rectal swabs were collected using cotton-tipped culture swabs in a standard collection system immediately before prostate biopsy.

A 61-year-old Korean man was referred to our institution because of high prostate-specific antigen (PSA) (8.1ng/mL) and frequency, nocturia that had lasted for the previous 4 months. The first transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy result was benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Purpose: Patients with bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) can have pain as a main symptom and overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms that are directly or indirectly related to a major mechanism that causes pain. The primary purpose of this study is firstly to identify the prevalence rate of OAB symptoms in patients with BPS/IC, secondly to identify changes in OAB symptoms after low-dose triple therapy, and thirdly to build a theoretical foundation to improve quality of life for patients.

Methods: Patients who met the inclusion criteria of BPS/IC through basic tests including the O'Leary-Sant symptom index, overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS), and visual analog scale (VAS) were identified.

Purpose: The objective was to determine predictive factors for premature discontinuation of docetaxel-based systemic chemotherapy in men with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of men who were treated with docetaxel-based systemic chemotherapy for CRPC in a single institution between May 2005 and April 2010. After being screened, 30 patients fit the eligibility criteria for inclusion in this study.

Purpose: Although endoscopic realignment has been accepted as a standard treatment for urethral injuries, the long-term follow-up data on this procedure are not sufficient. We report the long-term outcome of primary endoscopic realignment in bulbous urethral injuries.

Methods: Patients with bulbous urethral injuries were treated by primary endoscopic realignment between 1991 and 2005.

The incidence of febrile urinary tract infection after transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate biopsy has been reported to range from 0.1% to 7%, with Escherichia coli being the most common organism identified. The conventional wisdom is to recommend an interval of more than 4 to 6 weeks after the transrectal prostate biopsy before treating patients with radical prostatectomy.

Pelvic lymphocele is a postoperative complications than can result after endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection. Radical prostatectomy have many risk factors of deep vein thrombosis including location of target organ, malignancy, old age, Trendelenburg position, pelvic lymph node dissection, and long procedure time. A 57-year-old man with a localized prostate cancer was treated with endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection.

Prostatic abscess is uncommon and difficult to diagnose, because its clinical presentation mimics lower urinary tract symptoms. Prostatic abscess is often caused by gram-negative organisms and occasionally by Staphylococcus aureus. Community-acquired methicillin-resistant S.

Purpose: To determine the feasibility and safety of robotic partial nephrectomy (RPN), we compared the operative outcomes of patients who had undergone RPN with those of patients who had undergone laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN).

Materials And Methods: Between February 2009 and June 2010, 13 patients underwent transperitoneal RPN (group 1) and 14 patients underwent transperitoneal LPN (group 2) by a single surgeon. The operative outcomes of the 2 groups were compared by using Mann-Whitney U and Fisher's exact tests.

Purpose: The glutathione-S-transferase (GST)P1, GSTM1, and GSTT1 genotypes have been associated with an increased risk of prostate, bladder, and lung cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the GSTP1, GSTM1, and GSTT1 genotypes and the risk of prostate cancer in Korean men.

Materials And Methods: The study group consisted of 166 patients with histologically confirmed prostate cancer.

Purpose: To study the feasibility and safety of laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) radical nephrectomy, we compared the operative results with conventional laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.

Patients And Methods: Ten patients underwent LESS radical nephrectomy for renal tumors (group 1). Two types of single-port devices, a SILS port and a homemade single-port device that was made using a surgical glove and a wound retractor, were used through a 4-cm periumbilical incision.

Purpose: Bladder pain syndrome is a chronic disease that manifests as bladder pain, frequency, nocturia, and urgency. Gabapentin, amitriptyline, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are efficacious treatments for bladder pain syndrome. Here, we assessed the effect of triple therapy with these drugs in women with bladder pain syndrome.

Purpose: Curcumin (Cur) has been reported to induce apoptosis in human renal carcinoma Caki cells. Dimethoxycurcumin (DMC), one of several synthetic Cur analogues, has been reported to have increased metabolic stability over Cur. We determined whether DMC, like Cur, induces apoptosis in Caki cells and also compared the apoptosis-inducing activity of DMC with that of Cur.

The most common cause of vesicovaginal fistulasis injury to the bladder at the time of surgery. The operation most frequently responsible for vesicovaginal fistula formation is hysterectomy. The first successful transvaginal approach to vesicovaginal fistula repair was reported by Sims in 1838.

Purpose: We evaluated the feasibility of a laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) nephroureterectomy for an upper urinary tract tumor.

Materials And Methods: Between March 2009 and September 2009, 4 patients with upper urinary tract tumors underwent LESS nephroureterectomy. The mean age of the 2 female and 2 male patients was 69 years old, and their mean body mass index was 23.
