Background: Maraviroc is unique among approved antiretroviral drugs in targeting the host-cell chemokine coreceptor type-5 receptor. With its novel mechanism of action, we sought to describe the 5-year safety profile of maraviroc.

Methods: Two large phase 3 studies of maraviroc enrolled HIV-infected treatment-experienced patients and followed them up for 5 or more years.

In utero sensitization to infectious pathogens can establish immunological memory and may influence the immune response to unrelated antigens. Little is known about the influence of intrauterine human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) exposure on the cellular immune response to mycobacterial antigens. Whole-blood culture gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) production in response to mycobacterial antigens was measured at birth and 6 weeks of age to determine the characteristics of the IFN-gamma response in HIV-exposed infants to Mycobacterium bovis BCG and mycobacterial antigens.

Background: Pneumonia remains the leading cause of death in young children. The poor specificity of chest radiographs (CXRs) to diagnose pneumococcal pneumonia may underestimate the efficacy of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in preventing pneumococcal pneumonia.

Methods And Findings: The efficacy of nine-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine among children not infected with HIV (21%; 95% confidence interval, 1%-37%) increased when CXR-confirmed pneumonia was associated with serum C-reactive protein of 120 mg/l (12 mg/dl) or more and procalcitonin of 5.
