Introduction Multiple studies have shown that outcomes of various diseases differ by the hospital teaching status. However, not much is known about the effects of hospital teaching status on outcomes of acute pancreatitis (AP). The aim of this study was to identify if there was an effect of hospital teaching status on the outcomes of AP.

An Exceptionally Rare Cause of Refractory Gastrointestinal Bleed: Choriocarcinoma Syndrome.

Testicular choriocarcinomas comprise less than 1% of all testicular tumors and are often highly vascular with early hematogenous metastasis. Choriocarcinoma syndrome (CS) is a rare entity distinguished by diffuse tumor burden and often fatal bleeding from metastatic sites. Most reported cases describe pulmonary hemorrhage secondary to initiation of chemotherapy.

Case of colonic mucosal Schwann cell hamartoma and review of literature on unusual colonic polyps.

Mucosal Schwann cell hamartomas (MSCH) are benign mesenchymal tumours rarely seen in the gastrointestinal tract. They occasionally present as incidental sessile polyps during colonoscopy. A 55-year-old asymptomatic female patient with a medical history of multiple sclerosis presented for a screening colonoscopy.

Expression of WIF-1 in inflammatory bowel disease.

The WNT/β-catenin cellular network has been extensively studied in numerous diseases including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a condition that increases the risk of developing colorectal cancer. WIF-1 is an inhibitory protein that acts by blocking the interactions of WNT with its receptor complex, thus leading to downregulation of end products of this pathway.

Taking an Alternate Route Home: Stenting of Choledochoduodenal Fistula.

A 53-year-old male with adenocarcinoma of the rectum with metastasis to liver and porta hepatis region underwent biliary stenting due to aggressive distal common bile duct stricture. At the time of planned stent exchange, the guidewire could not be re-introduced, despite several techniques, including the SpyScope(®) system. A small fistula was noted by contrast fluoroscopy extending between proximal biliary tree/porta hepatis and the duodenal bulb, likely secondary to previous chemotherapy and radiation.

An unusual occurrence of hepatic granulomas and secondary sitosterolemia in turner syndrome.

Although abnormal liver function tests occur in 50-80% of cases with Turner syndrome, there are no previous reports of overt hepatic disease or hepatic granulomas associated with Turner's syndrome. We report three cases of Turner syndrome associated with hepatic granulomas with a wide range of liver dysfunction. Of the three patients, first patient underwent liver transplantation; second patient remained stable on immunosuppressants; and third patient died from complications of decompensated liver cirrhosis as she declined liver transplantation due to multiple comorbidities.
