Background: Pre-hospital identification of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) by paramedical staff reduces reperfusion time. However, the impact of this approach on the rate of unnecessary activation of coronary catheterisation lab (CCL) remains unclear.

Methods: The study reviewed consecutive STEMI patients over 3 years (July 2015 to June 2018) from all primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) centres and inter-hospital transfers (IHT) from non-PPCI capable centres in Western Australia.

Article Synopsis
  • Obesity negatively impacts exercise capacity, and the study aimed to see if whey protein isolates (WPIs) and vitamin E tocotrienols (TCTs) could improve this issue in obese rats.
  • Male rats were divided into control and supplement groups, fed a high-fat diet for 10 weeks, while their exercise endurance, glucose tolerance, and metabolic health were assessed.
  • Results showed that both TCT and WPI groups had over 50% greater exercise endurance compared to controls, but these improvements were not linked to changes in body weight or insulin sensitivity.
