This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of oral amoxicillin/clavulanate (AMX-CL) for the prevention of bacteremia following dental extractions. The study group (AMX-CLG) comprised 40 adults requiring dental extractions under general anesthesia who were administered a prophylactic regimen of 1875/125 mg of AMX-CL orally 1-2 h prior to the surgery. Venous blood samples were collected from each patient at baseline and at 30 s and 15 min after dental extractions.

Objective: To develop a model for predicting the behavior of patients with intellectual disability in the dental office.
Methods: The study group comprised 250 patients with Down syndrome (DS), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy (CP), idiopathic cognitive impairment or rare disorders.
Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome is a polymalformative chromosomal disorder caused by a deletion in the distal region of the short arm of chromosome 4. The disease is considered rare (1/50,000 births) and predominantly affects females (2:1). In addition to the characteristic facial phenotype ("Greek warrior helmet"), its clinical manifestations include epilepsy, developmental and psychomotor delay, intellectual disability, cardiac and respiratory complications, and eating problems.

The objective of the present study was to identify the 100 most cited reports on medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), determine their main bibliometric characteristics, and identify the bibliometric variables that affected the citation rates.
Materials And Methods: We performed a data search in the Scopus database to determine the number of MRONJ article citations up to September 30, 2018.
Aims: The aim of the present work was to assess in patients with severe disability operated under general anesthesia whether the progressive acquisition of experience by the dental team affects the type of procedure performed and the duration of operations.
Methods And Results: A study group of 911 patients who underwent dental treatment under general anesthesia between 1997 and 2014 was conformed. Information was collected from every patient including: dental diagnosis, dental procedures and duration of the operating times.
Determining a patient's dental age is essential from the dental standpoint but can also have connotations of a forensic, anthropological and medicolegal nature. In this study, we assessed the correspondence between dental age and chronological age in a group of 50 children with autism spectrum disorders, with a chronological age range of 3-17 years. The dental age was calculated using panoramic radiography images, applying linear regression models derived from the classical indices by Nolla and Demirjian.

Case Presentation: A 77-year-old patient with osteoporosis treated with subcutaneous injections of denosumab at an interval of 6 months is presented. The patient developed MRONJ after receiving a non-surgical periodontal therapy.
Statement Of Problem: The need for tooth replacement in individuals with Down syndrome (DS) is explained by the high prevalence of dental agenesis and by the premature loss of teeth through severe periodontal disease. Dental implants may be the dental procedure of choice in some of these patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this clinical study was to analyze dental implant survival in a series of patients with DS.
Objective: To evaluate the mandibular cortical indices in osteoporotic women receiving oral bisphosphonates (oBPs).
Material And Methods: The study group included 46 Caucasian women aged over 55 years on treatment with oBPs for postmenopausal osteoporosis. Information recorded included age, weight, height, type of oBP, duration of treatment, comorbid conditions and coadjuvant medication.

The range of indications for dental implants has broadened enormously owing to their predictability and the improvement of patient satisfaction in terms of stability, comfort, aesthetics and functionality. The aim of this article is to review those indications in patients with mental or physical disabilities as the difficulty to cope with oral hygiene often leads to teeth extraction, adding edentulousness to the impairments already present. Following that goal, available literature in Pubmed database, Scopus, Web of Knowledge and The Cochrane Library database about dental implants placement in these patients has been reviewed, assessing the variables of each study: number of patients, sex, average age, oral hygiene, parafunctional habits, impairment, bone quality, protocol of implant surgery, necessity of deep intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, follow-up period and number of failures.

Study Design: The study group was formed of twenty healthy volunteers (dental students) with a good oral health status. Using a balanced randomisation system, all volunteers performed toothbrushing with four products (the three edible toothpastes and water) at intervals of one week.
Objective: The objective of this study was to define the clinical characteristics of osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ) induced by oral bisphosphonates in a series of patients from a circumscribed area in northwest Spain.
Study Design: A retrospective multicentre study was undertaken in 3 hospitals in an area with a radius less than 100 km in the Autonomous Community of Galicia (Spain). The medical records were reviewed and an oral examination was performed of patients diagnosed with oral bisphosphonate-related ONJ in the previous 3 years.
Objective: To evaluate the criteria for the prescription of oral bisphosphonates (OB) in a series of women with osteoporosis referred for tooth extraction.
Study Design: The study included 38 postmenopausal women on treatment with OBs. The following variables were analysed: age, weight, height, type of OB and duration of treatment, bone densitometry and risk factors for osteoporosis.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence and aetiology of systemic disease among patients requesting dental treatment in public and private practice.
Study Design: A retrospective analysis was performed of the medical histories of 2000 patients requesting dental treatment during the year 2009. One thousand patients came from the Fontiñas Primary Care Oral and Dental Health Unit of the Galician Health Service (SERGAS), Spain, and the other thousand from a private clinic; both clinics were situated in Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña, Spain.

Objective: The aim of this study was to record blood pressure in patients during their visit to a dental clinic, with the aim of identifying those who have high blood pressure and are unaware of it, as well as those who are aware of their condition but do have their blood pressure under adequate control.
Study Design: We designed a cross-sectional study which included 154 patients who were seen for a dental checkup at the Primary Dental Care of the Gallician Health Service (SERGAS). All participants completed a standardized medical questionnaire after measuring their systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), which was conducted using the protocol established by the Spanish Society of Hypertension-Spanish League for the Fight Against Hypertension (HTA).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the oral health status of patients with mildly decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
Study Design: The study group comprised 80 adults with GFR 60-89 mL/min. A group of 80 age- and gender-matched control subjects with GFR > or =90 mL/min were selected.

Transdermal scopolamine has been shown to be very useful in the management of drooling, particularly in patients with neurological or neuropsychiatric disturbances or severe developmental disorders. In this paper, we present the case of a 24-year-old patient with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy and a severe problem of drooling, exacerbated by marked mandibular prognathism. After exclusion of other therapeutic alternatives, it was decided to use sustained-release transdermal scopolamine patches (Scopoderm TTS).

Study Design: In 1992, an oral examination was carried out on a group of 200 HIV-infected patients with a mean age of 36.8 +/- 7 years (range 25-46 years) to establish the diagnosis of OC.
The aim of this study was to assess the current practice of antibiotic prophylaxis of Bacterial Endocarditis (BE) among General Dental Practitioners (GDPs) in Spain. GDPs were asked over the telephone by a fictitious patient what antibiotic prophylaxis they would administer to an "at risk" patient for BE before a tooth extraction. Four hundred randomly selected Spanish GDPs were surveyed, 200 of them were asked about BE prophylaxis in penicillin non-allergic patients and the remaining 200 in penicillin allergic patients.
