Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative acute heart failure (AHF) is a frequent complication in elderly patients after hip fracture surgery, prompting a study to identify its risk factors.
  • The study analyzed 88 patients from a hospital in Pakistan, revealing that 13.64% developed AHF post-surgery, with significant risk factors including age over 65, anemia, hypertension, diabetes, hypoalbuminemia, and prolonged surgery time (over 120 minutes).
  • The findings suggest that proactively managing these identified risk factors prior to surgery may reduce the occurrence of AHF in older patients.
