The cytotoxic effects of a new compound, ethyl 2-[N-p-chlorobenzyl-(2'-methyl)] aniline-4-oxo-4,5-dihydrofuran-3-carboxylate (JOT01007) have been tested in mouse leukemia WEHI-3 cells. In this study, the mechanisms by which JOT01007 acts on a human cervical cancer cell line (Ca Ski) to bring about an increase in the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2, reduction of the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), increase in the levels of cytoplasmic Ca2+, activation of caspases and fragmentation of DNA, and apoptosis were investigated. Flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that JOT01007 induced a decrease of MMP in Ca Ski cells.

Purpose: We investigated the anticancer effect of AE (1,8-dihydroy-3-[hydroxymethyl]-anthraquione) in the T24 human bladder cancer cell line (Food Industry Research and Development Institute, Hsinchu, Taiwan) by studying apoptosis regulation.

Materials And Methods: AE, which is purified from aloe vera leaves, has been reported to have antitumor activity. Cell viability, cell cycle and apoptosis were determined by flow cytometric methods.

It has been reported that (-)-Menthol can inhibit the growth of rat liver epithelial tumor cells and is a potent chemopreventive agent. The purpose of the present experiment was to examine and identify cellular processes leading to cell death which are affected by (-)-Menthol in human gastric SNU-5 cancer cells. Cell death (cytotoxicity) was examined and analyzed by trypan blue stain and flow cytometric methods.

It is well known that dietary phenolic compounds can elicit vital cellular responses such as cytotoxicity, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis by activating a cascade of molecular events. Ellagic acid is one of these phenolic compounds, but the exact mechanism of its action is still unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate ellagic acid-induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in T24 human bladder cancer cells in vitro.

It is well documented that N-acetyltransferase (NAT) plays a key role in the N-acetylation of arylamine compounds. Ellagic acid was demonstrated to elicit dose-dependent bacteriostatic activity and inhibition of N-acetylation of 2-aminofluorene (AF). N-acetylation of AF in S.
