Morphological study for Accipitrid birds (Accipitridforms, Accipitridae) in Iraq; part two.

A part two of Accipitridae Family members that belong to three genera: Circus, Gyps, and Neophron were documented as morphometrics, distribution ranges, and conservation status were reviewed and comprehensively discussed. A total of 29 voucher specimens belong to six species which are conserved in the "Iraq Natural History Research Center and Museum INHM" as follow: Marsh Harrier Circus aeruginosus (Linnaeus, 1758), Hen Harrier Circus cyaneus (Linnaeus, 1766), Montagus Harrier Circus pygargus (Linnaeus, 1758), Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (Gmelin, 1770), Egyptian vulture Neophron percnopterus (Linnaeus, 1758), and Griffon vulture Gyps fulfus (Hablitz, 1783). The results revealed significant criteria about near threatened NT species IUCN and Birdlife International listed as Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus, and Endangered (EN) species as Egyptian vulture Neophron percnopterus globally decreasing population trend.

Singular-Value-Decomposition-Based Matrix Surgery.

This paper is motivated by the need to stabilise the impact of deep learning (DL) training for medical image analysis on the conditioning of convolution filters in relation to model overfitting and robustness. We present a simple strategy to reduce square matrix condition numbers and investigate its effect on the spatial distributions of point clouds of well- and ill-conditioned matrices. For a square matrix, the SVD surgery strategy works by: (1) computing its singular value decomposition (SVD), (2) changing a few of the smaller singular values relative to the largest one, and (3) reconstructing the matrix by reverse SVD.

Reliability of the transverse acetabular ligament as a landmark for functional cup anteversion in total hip arthroplasty.

Background: The transverse acetabular ligament (TAL) can be a useful and reproducible landmark in the orientation of the acetabular cup in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Its role in guiding cup orientation when aiming to implant in a functional anteversion orientation is unclear. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the TAL and the planned acetabular cup anteversion when implanted in a function orientation.

Assessment of salivary and gingival crevicular fluids IL6, IL-8, IL-12, and IL-17 levels in healthy subjects and patients with periodontal disease.

Background: Biomarkers present in the oral fluid (saliva and GCF) have been studied thoroughly in order to be used as adjuncts to the diagnosis of periodontal disease. In periodontal diseases, inflammatory mediators, including IL6, IL-8, IL-12, and IL-17, may promote the degeneration of periodontal tissues.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to quantify IL6, IL-8, IL-12, and IL-17 levels in the saliva and GCF for patients with generalized periodontitis and compare it with healthy subjects.

Recurrent shoulder instability is often a result of bony defects in the glenoid following shoulder dislocations. Effects of interdental aids on clinical periodontal indices.

Background: Removal of plaque and food particle between teeth represent interdental cleaning. Every patient's self-care program includes plaque removal efficiently and systematically. Periodontal disease, tooth decay and tooth loss may result from the absence of interdental cleaning or even an irregular and unsuccessful interdental cleaning.

Effect of plasma surface treatment of three different CAD/CAM materials on the micro shear bond strength with resin cement (A comparative in vitro study).

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of plasma treatment versus conventional treatment on the micro shear bond strength (μSBS), surface roughness, and wettability of three different CAD/CAM materials.

Materials And Methods: Sixty cylindrical specimens (5 mm diameter × 3 mm height) were prepared from three different CAD/CAM materials: Group A: Zirconia, Group B: Lithium disilicate, and Group C: Resin nano-ceramic. Each group was subdivided into two subgroups according to surface treatment used: Subgroup I: Conventional treatment, zirconia was sandblasted with AlO, while lithium disilicate and resin nano-ceramic were etched with hydrofluoric acid.

Objectives: To investigate and characterize mutations in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), we present three cases with diverse mutations and review the literature.

Methods: The institutional SoftPath software was used to find MDS cases between January 2020 and April 2022. The cases with a diagnosis of a myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative overlap syndrome including MDS/MPN with ring sideroblasts and thrombocytosis were excluded.

Enhancement of the CAST Block Algorithm Based on Novel S-Box for Image Encryption.

Background And Aim: due to the rapid growth of data communication and multimedia system applications, security becomes a critical issue in the communication and storage of images. This study aims to improve encryption and decryption for various types of images by decreasing time consumption and strengthening security.

Methodology: An algorithm is proposed for encrypting images based on the Carlisle Adams and Stafford Tavares CAST block cipher algorithm with 3D and 2D logistic maps.

Unicortical fixation does not compromise bony union in the Latarjet procedure.

Background: Fixation of the coracoid during the Latarjet procedure can be performed with either unicortical or bicortical fixation. There is no clear evidence that the number of cortices fixed affects graft union, but in vitro studies suggest bicortical fixation is desirable. The primary aim of the study was to retrospectively review the coracoid union rates in our Latarjet cohort who have undergone either unicortical or bicortical graft fixation.

Extended B-cell depletion beyond 6-months in patients receiving ocrelizumab or rituximab for CNS demyelinating disease.

Objectives: To investigate the duration of B-cell depletion in a cohort of patients receiving ocrelizumab or rituximab for multiple sclerosis (MS) or neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD).

Methods: We retrospectively searched our database for patients diagnosed with MS or NMOSD, who were receiving ocrelizumab or rituximab and had available CD19 measurements. We collected demographic data, infusion doses, infusion dates, CD19 absolute counts and percentages, and their collection dates.

Significant successes in machine learning approaches to image analysis for various applications have energized strong interest in automated diagnostic support systems for medical images. The evolving in-depth understanding of the way carcinogenesis changes the texture of cellular networks of a mass/tumor has been informing such diagnostics systems with use of more suitable image texture features and their extraction methods. Several texture features have been recently applied in discriminating malignant and benign ovarian masses by analysing B-mode images from ultrasound scan of the ovary with different levels of performance.

A generic deep learning framework to classify thyroid and breast lesions in ultrasound images.

Breast and thyroid cancers are the two common cancers to affect women worldwide. Ultrasonography (US) is a commonly used non-invasive imaging modality to detect breast and thyroid cancers, but its clinical diagnostic accuracy for these cancers is controversial. Both thyroid and breast cancers share some similar high frequency ultrasound characteristics such as taller-than-wide shape ratio, hypo-echogenicity, and ill-defined margins.

Survey of trainee attitudes to skill development and simulation training in trauma and orthopaedics.

Background: Simulation training in surgery is widespread and allows surgeons to practise novel operative techniques and acquaint themselves with unfamiliar surgical procedures. The use of box or virtual reality simulators in many surgical specialities is established; however, its use within trauma and orthopaedics (T&O) in the UK and the attitudes of trainee towards it are not known. The aim of this study is to explore the experiences and opinions of T&O trainees towards simulation training.

Role of CD68 immunohistochemistry in categorizing benign nonmesothelial cell population and refining "atypical" category in serous fluid cytology.

Background: Body fluids are rich in histiocytes and may mimic atypical epithelial cells morphologically. Histiocytes can pose a significant challenge in serous fluid cytology as they tend to appear atypical due to prolonged accumulation in serous fluids in vivo and processing by liquid-based cytology in vitro. Not many studies have documented the utilization of histiocytic marker such as CD68 in serous fluid cytology, which can subsequently reduce the "atypical" diagnostic category.

The incidence and outcome of chondral tumours as incidental findings on investigation of shoulder pathology.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe outcomes of incidental chondral tumours in the shoulder referred to our Bone Tumour Unit (BTU).

Methods: Our hospital radiology database was searched using the filtered terms "enchondroma", "low-grade chondral tumour", "chondrosarcoma" with "humerus", "arm", "shoulder", "scapula" and "clavicle". Case note review of results assessed primary reasons for referral, radiological diagnosis, recommended management with subsequent reviews and outcomes, either in clinic or surveillance scan reports.

New/Revised Entities in Gastrointestinal Lymphoproliferative Disorders.

The gastrointestinal tract is a common extranodal site of involvement by lymphomas. These may be diagnostically challenging because they can mimic a variety of benign conditions and may be difficult to subclassify when malignant. The classification of gastrointestinal lymphomas is an evolving area with some recent changes.

Evaluation of machine learning methods with Fourier Transform features for classifying ovarian tumors based on ultrasound images.

Introduction: Ovarian tumors are the most common diagnostic challenge for gynecologists and ultrasound examination has become the main technique for assessment of ovarian pathology and for preoperative distinction between malignant and benign ovarian tumors. However, ultrasonography is highly examiner-dependent and there may be an important variability between two different specialists when examining the same case. The objective of this work is the evaluation of different well-known Machine Learning (ML) systems to perform the automatic categorization of ovarian tumors from ultrasound images.

Return to sport after lower limb arthroplasty - why not for all?

Background: Total hip and knee replacements are being performed in increasing numbers in progressively younger patients with higher activity demands. Many such patients have expectations of returning to athletic activity post-operatively yet are not always able to do so and the reasons behind this have not been extensively examined. We hypothesise that any reasons for a failure to return to athletic activity post-operatively are multi-factorial.
