Initial construct stability of long cephalomedullary nails with superior locking for a complex trochanteric fracture model AO31A2.2- a biomechanical study.

Background: Complex fractures of the trochanteric region, as well as fractures located in the directly subtrochanteric region, are controversially discussed around the world regarding the nail type to be used. A long nail is recommended by manufacturers but requires longer surgical and fluoroscopy times. A possible solution could be a nail with an appropriate length which can be locked in a minimally invasive manner by the main aiming device.

Single-centre results of a randomised controlled trial comparing the Gamma3 nail and a sliding hip screw to treat AO type 31-A1 and 31-A2 trochanteric fractures.

Purpose: The primary goal of this randomised controlled trial was to investigate whether there are differences in the outcome between the Gamma3 nail and a sliding hip screw (SHS) regarding quality of life 1 year after surgery.

Methods: In a controlled randomised trial, we compared the Gamma3 nail (Stryker) and a SHS (Omega, Stryker) in the treatment of 193 patients with pertrochanteric fractures. The follow-up period was 12 months.

The development, incidence and treatment trends of trochanteric fractures in Germany: a cohort study.

Background: Hip fractures are a major public health problem worldwide and can lead to disability, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life. We aim to provide a nationwide epidemiological analysis of trochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures and their respective surgical treatments.

Methods: Data were retrieved from the national database of the German Department of the Interior.

Incidence of spinal cord injuries in Germany.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to provide recent data on incidence of spinal cord injuries (SCI) in Germany.

Methods: The source of information was data collected via the mandatory submission of ICD-10 GM Codes by German public hospitals after patient discharge. Data from 2013 to 2020 were retrieved from the databases of the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

Validating a transnational fracture treatment registry using a standardized method.

Aim: Subsequent to a three-month pilot phase, recruiting patients for the newly established BFCC (Baltic Fracture Competence Centre) transnational fracture registry, a validation of the data quality needed to be carried out, applying a standardized method.

Method: During the literature research, the method of "adaptive monitoring" fulfilled the requirements of the registry and was applied. It consisted of a three-step audit process; firstly, scoring of the overall data quality, followed by source data verification of a sample size, relative to the scoring result, and finally, feedback to the registry on measures to improve data quality.
