A wide range of pathologic processes may involve the floor of the mouth, the part of the oral cavity that is located beneath the tongue. They include lesions that arise uniquely in this location (eg, ranula, submandibular duct obstruction) as well as various malignancies, inflammatory processes, and vascular abnormalities that may also occur elsewhere in the head and neck. Some lesions that arise in superficial tissues such as the mucosa may be easily diagnosed at physical examination.

Purpose: To assess changes in tumor computed tomographic (CT) texture after two cycles of treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and to determine if tumor texture correlates with measured time to progression in patients with metastatic renal cell cancer who received TKIs.

Materials And Methods: A waiver of institutional review board approval was obtained for this retrospective analysis. Contrast material-enhanced CT texture parameters were assessed in 39 patients with metastatic renal cell cancer who received a TKI.

Purpose: To evaluate the radiation doses delivered during volumetric helical perfusion CT of the thorax, abdomen or pelvis.

Materials And Methods: The dose-length product (DLP) and CT dose index (CTDIvol) were recorded and effective dose (E) determined for patients undergoing CT (4D adaptive spiral) for tumour evaluation. Image noise and contrast to noise (CNR) at peak enhancement were also assessed for quality.

Background: Response assessment is critical in evaluating effectiveness of anticancer treatment. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are associated with significant clinical benefit but may not result in significant tumor size reduction. Thus standard size-based response assessment with RECIST is insensitive, resulting in low response rates which do not reflect disease control measured by time to progression.
