Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is frequently performed among individuals who golf. This study examines the effect of TKA on pre- and postoperative pain, frequency of sport participation, handicap, driving distance, use of a cart, and overall game enjoyment.

Methods: This is a survey-based retrospective review of 71 patients after primary TKA at a tertiary medical facility in upstate New York.

The purpose of our study was to evaluate the quality, accuracy, and readability of online resources pertaining to hallux valgus.

Musculoskeletal Health Literacy in Patients With Foot and Ankle Injuries: A Cross-Sectional Survey of Comprehension.

Purpose: Approximately 33% of Americans have inadequate health literacy, which is associated with decreased medical knowledge, increased hospitalization and use of emergency care, and worse control of diseases. In this study, the Literacy in Musculoskeletal Problems (LiMP) questionnaire was used to evaluate the prevalence of limited musculoskeletal literacy in patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with foot and ankle-related complaints, as these individuals may be at increased risk for inferior outcomes.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, individuals ≥18 years of age presenting with foot and ankle-related complaints to the ED were invited to participate.

Preliminary trauma radiographs misrepresent pubic diastasis injuries.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the role of portable primary trauma survey radiographs in the evaluation and management of anteroposterior (AP) compression pelvic injuries. A retrospective analysis was conducted at a level I academic trauma center. Twenty-seven adults with AP compressive class pelvic ring injuries who received both portable pelvic radiographs and pelvic computed tomography (CT) imaging in an unbound pelvic state were included.

With an aging population and increased incidence of glenohumeral degenerative arthritis, the number of active golfers requiring total shoulder replacement is on the rise. This study aims to evaluate the effect of total shoulder replacement on golfing activity.

Adaptive response to hydrogen peroxide in yeast: induction, time course, and relationship to dose-response models.

The assay for trp5 gene conversion and ilv1-92 reversion in Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain D7 was used to characterize the induction of an adaptive response by hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)). Effects of a small priming dose on the genotoxic effects of a larger challenge dose were measured in exponential cultures and in early stationary phase. An adaptive response, indicated by smaller convertant and revertant frequencies after the priming dose, occurred at lower priming and challenge doses in young, well-aerated cultures.

Potentiation of the mutagenicity and recombinagenicity of bleomycin in yeast by unconventional intercalating agents.

Interactions between bleomycin (BLM) and conventional or unconventional intercalating agents were analyzed in an assay for mitotic gene conversion at the trp5 locus and reversion of the ilv1-92 allele in Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain D7. BLM is a potent recombinagen and mutagen in the assay. Various chemicals modulate the genetic activity of BLM, producing either antimutagenic effects or enhanced genotoxicity.

Enhancement of the recombinagenic and mutagenic activities of bleomycin in yeast by intercalation of acridine compounds into DNA.

Strain D7 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used to measure the induction by bleomycin (BLM) of mitotic recombination at the trp5 locus and point mutations at ilv1 in the presence and absence of acridine compounds. BLM is a potent mutagen and recombinagen in the D7 assay. The acridines vary, some being mutagenic or recombinagenic and others not.
