Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess cosmetic outcomes after administering stereotactic partial breast irradiation (S-PBI) in 75 women with early-stage breast cancer.
  • Most participants reported good cosmetic results at both the beginning of the study and three years later, with no significant decline noted across different radiation dose levels.
  • The findings suggest that increasing the dose of S-PBI does not negatively impact cosmetic appearance, indicating its viability as a treatment option for early-stage breast cancer.

Methods And Materials: Seventy-five patients with ductal carcinoma-in situ or invasive nonlobular epithelial histologies stage 0, I, or II, with tumor size <3 cm were enrolled in a dose-escalation, phase I S-PBI trial between January 2011 and July 2015. Fat necrosis was evaluated clinically at each follow-up.
