Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of early necrotizing soft-tissue infections of the genitalia (NSTIG) component separation, primary wound closure (CSC). Purpose: To assess the utility of the Manufacturer And User Facility Device Experience (MAUDE) database in objectively capturing adverse events for transvaginal mesh in the United States.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed 1,103 individual medical device reports submitted to the MAUDE database that inspired the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration's 2008 Public Health Notification. Entries were compiled into a categorical database that reported manufacturer, brand, reporter type, report source, and type of adverse event.

Gonadal vein thrombosis (GVT) has been reported in association with malignancy and pelvic inflammatory conditions. Patients who develop GVT often require systemic anticoagulation to reduce the risk of pulmonary embolism and other local and distant thromboembolic effects. As the gonadal vein courses from the pelvis toward its outlet in the upper abdomen, its intimate relationship to the ureter in the setting of vascular pathology may pose a risk for urinary obstruction in the adult.

Robot-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion (RARC-ICUD) has only recently been explored as a viable surgical option for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer seeking satisfactory oncologic control while benefiting from minimally invasive surgical techniques. Inspired by earlier open and laparoscopic work, initial descriptions of RARC-ICUD were published in 2003, and have since been followed by multiple larger case series which have suggested promising outcomes for our patients. However, the rate of adoption has remained relatively slow when compared to other robot-assisted procedures such as the radical prostatectomy, likely owing to longer operative times, operative complexity, costs, and uncertainty regarding oncologic efficacy.

Objective: To assess the role of robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) in elderly patients focusing on perioperative, functional, and oncologic outcomes in comparison with a younger cohort.

Materials And Methods: From a prospectively maintained institutional review board-approved database, 339 patients were divided into 2 groups defined by age ≥ 70 (n = 71) or <70 years (n = 268) at the time of RAPN. They were compared for perioperative outcomes and complications, including risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage progression.

Objective: To evaluate if statin medications (3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A [HMG-CoA] reductase inhibitors) improve either oncologic or renal functional outcomes for patients undergoing robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RPN).

Patients And Methods: Patients undergoing RPN between March 2008 and October 2013 were evaluated from a prospectively maintained database for statin usage. The rate of perioperative acute kidney injury (AKI), as defined according to the RIFLE criteria, and the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) were compared between users and nonusers.
