Hemodynamic monitoring in the intensive care unit.

Patients in the intensive care unit are often critically ill with inadequate tissue perfusion and oxygenation. This inadequate delivery of substrates at the cellular level is a common definition of shock. Hemodynamic monitoring is the observation of cardiovascular physiology.

Pancreatic cancer cell genetics and signaling response to treatment correlate with efficacy of gemcitabine-based molecular targeting strategies.

Introduction: Pancreatic cancer is a deadly cancer with limited sensitivity to gemcitabine. Molecular targeting of critical signaling pathways [nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-kappaB), PI3K/AKT, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)] in combination with gemcitabine may improve sensitivity. We hypothesize that pancreatic cancer cell genetics and signaling response to treatment correlate with efficacy of gemcitabine-based molecular targeting strategies.

Total pancreatectomy (R0 resection) improves survival over subtotal pancreatectomy in isolated neck margin positive pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Unlabelled: In patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PC), conversion to total pancreatectomy (TP) may be necessary to achieve R0 resection.

Hypothesis: We sought to examine the oncologic benefit of conversion of PD to TP to achieve an R0 resection in patients with an isolated positive neck margin.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data at Indiana University and Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
