Alignment in total ankle replacement is important for success and implant survival. Recently there has been the introduction and adoption of patient specific instrumentation for implantation in total ankle replacement. Current literature does not evaluate the effect of preoperative deformity on accuracy of patient specific instrumentation.

Although there are many different approaches available, a few options are commonly used. A retrospective series of patients that underwent surgery for insertional Achilles tendon surgery were contacted to come in for prospective strength testing, with the tester blinded to the type of surgery performed.

Surgical repair of insertional Achilles tendinosis is indicated in the face of failed conservative measures. Several methods for this repair have been described, and the optimal method is not universally agreed upon. Traditionally open repair has been recognized to offer a lower rerupture rate compared with nonoperative methods but with a higher complication rate. Percutaneous repair has been described to offer the benefits of open repair while avoiding the complications.

American college of foot and ankle surgeons' clinical consensus statement: perioperative prophylactic antibiotic use in clean elective foot surgery.

Some controversy exists regarding the use of antibiotic prophylaxis in elective foot and ankle surgery. A task force was appointed by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) to provide a clinical consensus statement on this topic. The panel members performed a literature search and identified 6 studies that met the inclusion criteria.
