Baker's Cyst.

The authors present a case of a Baker's cyst in the right leg of an 86-year-old woman, whose presentation was more typical for a deep venous thrombosis. Both conditions have inflammation and acute calf pain. The clinical manifestations, imaging findings, and treatment of this common emergency department presentation are discussed.

Impact of early versus late administration of bamlanivimab on readmissions in patients with high-risk COVID-19.

Background: Recombinant monoclonal antibody therapies have been utilized under emergency use authorization (EUA) for the prevention of clinical decompensation in high-risk COVID-19 positive patients for up to 10 days from symptom onset. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the timing of the monoclonal antibody, bamlanivimab, on clinical outcomes in high-risk COVID-19 positive patients.

Methods: This was an IRB-approved, retrospective evaluation of adult patients who received bamlanivimab per EUA criteria in the emergency department (ED).

Apparent behavioral benefits of tau overexpression in P301L tau transgenic mice.

Transgenic mice expressing human tau containing the P301L tau mutation (JNPL3; tau mice) develop motor neuron loss, paralysis and death between 7 and 12 months. Surprisingly, at 5 and 7 months of age, tau transgenic mice were superior to other genotypes in the rotarod task, and had near perfect scores on the balance beam and coat hanger tests. One tau transgenic mouse was performing at a superior level in the rotarod one day prior to developing paralysis.

However, the mechanisms of ROS-mediated vascular complications in diabetes are not clear. We tested the hypothesis that ROS-mediated increase in proapoptotic factor Bax expression leads to medial smooth muscle cell (SMC) apoptosis that is associated with neointima formation.
