Chronic dehydration is a leading cause of morbidity for the elderly, but how aging alters the fluid homeostasis system is not well understood. Here, we used a combination of physiologic, behavioral and circuit analyses to characterize how fluid balance is affected by aging in mice. We found that old mice have a primary defect in sensing and producing the anti-diuretic hormone vasopressin, which results in chronic dehydration.

Objectives: Fractional ablative CO laser (FLSR) is used to treat hypertrophic scars (HTSs) resulting from burn injuries, which are characterized by factors, such as erythema, contracture, thickness, and symptoms of pain and itch. Traditionally, waiting a year after injury for scar maturation before starting laser treatment has been recommended; however, the potential benefits of earlier intervention have gained popularity. Still, the optimal timing for beginning laser intervention in patients with HTSs remains uncertain.

Atrophic acne scars are the most common type of acne scars and are classified into three main types: icepick, boxcar, and rolling scars. Various procedures and techniques for atrophic acne scarring are discussed in detail, with stronger evidence-based support for lasers (non-fractional, fractional, ablative, and non-ablative), platelet-rich plasma as adjunctive treatment, chemical peels (glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, and Jessner's solution), dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid, and microneedling, and lesser quality evidence for microdermabrasion, subcision, and lipoaspirate grafting. Further research is needed to optimize treatment protocols, assess the efficacy of monotherapies, and establish standardized guidelines for clinicians.
